⚔️ Gameweek 11 Review – 84 Points (49 Average)
What a week! In GW11 even the defence performed for once, well kind of. Robertson (8pts) with a much-needed return but Trent (1pt) was again frustrating, this time leaving the pitch early with an injury. Midfield as usual scored highly with Salah (28pts) and Mbeumo (5pts), but it was the Portuguese wizard Bruno, upstaging everyone with a mammoth 17-pointer. I brought him in this GW so it’s nice when things go to plan. Continuing points up top was Evanilson (8pts) with three returns in three and Cunha (12pts) repaying the faith of many managers including myself this week. The only blip was Fabianksi (9pts) being left on the bench for his highest GW points of the season so far, I got most decisions right but it’s always tough to get a full house.

✅ The Best 3 Transfers IN for Gameweek 12
🇵🇹 Bruno Fernandes – Man United (£8.3m, 11.2%)
Yes, he remains for a second week to highlight the importance of transferring him at the earliest opportunity…now! It was risky to recommend a player who was only 7% owned(previous GW) and in poor form, within a team in poor form, and now others have seen the opportunity in his selection. But Team, you know how we operate here, and we don’t go with the easy, majority picks but the left-field peripheral picks that so far this season have been spot on. Bruno has already risen by £0.1m in price, will rise again during the IB, and a player who can haul with devastating effect for a cut-price of £8.3m who will soon become as near to a must-own as can be, should not be slept on. Ipswich and Everton next, combined with a new manager bounce secures his spot in many teams for the foreseeable future, including mine.
🇸🇪 Alexander Isak – Newcastle (£8.4m, 16.5%)
The two biggest scores of the season back-to-back, is but only one reason why I have recommended Isak to be transferred in. Another is he plays West Ham, Crystal Palace, Leicester, Ipswich & Brentford in the next six fixtures. Ok, sure FPL Veteran, that’s not bad, but is it the best? Yes, I agree though fixtures often get us only much of the way there, it’s his previous season’s goalscoring rate and consistency that grab my attention. This season Newcastle have been poor in all areas, but especially in attack. In a side that has top 4 Champions League aspirations, 13 goals in 11 games is not even near the required level, especially considering the fact Leicester have scored one more this season(14 total). Despite that, Isak has totalled 4 goals in 9 games including 4 goals in his last 4 games, showing a return to form; just like Newcastle in general. Last year he scored a goal every 1.4 games and this season he is currently on a goal every 2.25 games, a stat that will dramatically reduce as his goal tally improves. With this upcoming fantastic fixture run, it’s of my opinion this is the period in which he improves greatly, points are incoming.
🇨🇩 Yoane Wissa – Brentford (£6.1m, 8%)
It’s simple, if Yoane Wissa plays he scores points, and that includes only 45 mins V Man City. Wissa has not failed to blank in any game he has played 80 mins or over this season and currently sits as the 7th top striker in FPL but listen closely…he has only played 8 games this season. The 160,000 managers who have already transferred him in for GW12 know that, and now you do too. Haaland has 7.5 points per match and costs over £15m, Wissa totals 6.8 points per match and costs £6.1m, a huge £9.1m less. This extra money allows you to balance your squad better and most importantly have a key high-scoring midfielder, or perhaps two! The current output is too high to ignore and shows no sign of slowing down.
❌ The Best 3 Transfers OUT for Gameweek 12
🏴 Dominic Calvert-Lewin – Everton (£5.8m, 3%)
I will keep this one short and sweet, 2 goals in 11 games, 0.9 shots on target, 7 big chances missed, 1 big chance created, 1 assist, and 0.5 key passes per game = season stats.
0.17 expected goals(xG), 4 shots(1 on target), 59% accurate passes, 0.05 expected assists(xA), 75 mins played, 0 dribble attempts, 11 times possession lost = West Ham
If you can’t remotely get close to scoring a goal V a sub-poor Hammers side, transfer out immediately. Look elsewhere in Cunha, Wissa, and Wood, or bring him down to a non-playing 4.5m player and save the money.
🇳🇿 Chris Wood – Nottingham Forest (£6.6m, 25%)
The Kiwi Haaland. A throwback for the ages, as the 32-year-old veteran striker currently sits second only to Erling Haaland in terms of FPL points. Nottingham Forest who currently sit joint third, even after a defeat this GW at the hands of Newcastle show just how well they have been performing this season. But for me, their squad is not large enough in quality or size to continue this form. Yes, they beat Liverpool at Anfield – a feat not many achieve – but we will soon see a downtick in results. Next opponents in Arsenal, Man City, Man Utd, Brentford and Aston Villa are tough enough but factoring in 4 of these are also away fixtures, paints a stark picture for their Christmas run. Wood has done well, and owners deserve a pat on the back for the great pick, but take the points, save the memories and move on.
🇰🇷 Son Heung-Min – Arsenal (£9.9m, 7%)
I have been thinking this one over….as we have said all season, he is a player to hop on and off from, but I am now firmly in the hop-off for the foreseeable future. Injuries, high price tag, sometimes moved positions, and goals/FPL points often shared around an attacking Spurs team, led me to more secure players. Yes, he will at times this season score double-digit hauls but unless you own him for most of the season you never know when these will appear. Spurs are still currently the highest scorers in the league(23 goals) but currently, I can’t justify spending almost £10m for a low return. For that price tag, I require a talisman of a club that more often than not is involved in almost every single attack. Look elsewhere and reinvest the funds.
Top Tip – It’s international break(IB) time and people always fall foul of it. Within this period players now play at least 2 games for their homelands in the Nations League or friendlies. So what this means for FPL is another 12 days fraught and fretting about if your player(s) are fit. Yes, we worry about dropping the budget (£), but the likelihood is low, as no doubt you will have another player rising in value to balance it out. If you do make a transfer ensure the player coming into your squad is not injury-prone, but my advice is to wait it out.
🦸 Gameweek 12 Captaincy Selections
🇪🇬 Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (£12.6m, 49%)
It’s business as usual and yet again we can’t look under, over or past the Liverpool midfielder. When many thought his age had caught up with him, he proved yet again why he is currently the best player in the Premier League and a real Bonafide legend. The close battle between him and Haaland is becoming a non-contest as he scores his 7th double tally in 11 games. Next up is a sorry Southampton and you would be a brave person to bet against Salah not earning his 8th double-digit haul against them.
Alternative Captain Options
From not many options to too many options. Yes, Salah is undoubtedly the best Captaincy choice, but there are a few who may get close. An in-form Bruno V Ipswich will run Salah close, Isak V a porous West Ham could return highly at Home or the Brentford boys, Wissa & Mbeumo V a goal-shy Everton could pay off. Options are bountiful but just ensure regardless of your selection, it is an attacking player.
👁️ FPL Veteran’s Vision and Verdict
Patience is a virtue and over an international break(IB) that is what I try to practise. I need to start building up free transfers(FT) and that is more than likely what I will do. There has been uncertainty with Liverpool defenders Robertson & Trent, but up next is Southampton so they are going nowhere, subject to Trent recovering from his injury. Though all playing away, my midfield is strong and doesn’t need much thought currently. Same with my front line, though I am looking to add to it; possibly bringing in Isak or Watkins who both have great upcoming fixtures. Above all I am closely keeping an eye on how Amorim at Man Utd settles in. Keane and Konsa are on the chopping block with a high chance Dalot or Mazraoui could replace them.
