Fiorentina are the latest side who will try to stop Daniele De Rossi’s charging Roma, with both of these outfits coming off European wins in midweek.
The Viola were made to work a little harder than they might have expected in Budapest, where they came from behind twice to winner a thriller against Maccabi Haifa 4-3. Utterly dominant in the match, they needed to rely on a stoppage-time goal from Antonin Barak to secure victory on the night, though their passage to the next round is far from secure.
Roma, meanwhile, enjoyed a far more comfortable night against Brighton. It was their best yet under De Rossi. Goals from Paulo Dybala, Romelu Lukaku, Gianluca Mancini and Bryan Cristante all but ended the tie as a contest as the Stadio Olimpico side propelled themselves towards the Europa League quarter-finals in spectacular fashion.
De Rossi has ripped up Jose Mourinho’s dour game plan and made Roma one of Europe’s most exciting sides to watch in a matter of weeks. It is a miraculous turnaround and has them dreaming once again of Champions League qualification.
With the top five Serie A clubs likely to go into the expanded European Cup next season, Fiorentina are not out of the running but could use a positive result in this encounter.
Here are the best bet builder tips for what is sure to be a thrilling encounter.

🏆 Match stats: Expect a feast of goals
Given the form that Roma are on, it’s very hard to back against De Rossi’s side, although Fiorentina have a home record that is to be respected. The Viola have only lost three times at home this season, against top two Inter and Juventus, as well as spuriously to Empoli.
Fiorentina are also a prolific side at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. Indeed, their scoring rate at home is nearly twice what it is on their travels.
Roma, meanwhile, are piling on the goals themselves under their new management. In each of their seven Serie A matches, they have managed to score at least two goals, while they have mustered at least three in four of their last five.
There is a cautionary note worth sounding over the capital side, though. While their results have been excellent, they have faced weak opponents in the league, perhaps giving De Rossi’s achievements a slightly flattering hue. In their sole significant test, they lost 4-2 at home to Inter.
What does appear likely in this game, however, are goals while backing confidence-rich Roma with a handicap does offer some insurance against their previous results simply being a case of them bullying mediocre opponents.
Predictions:
⚽ Roma (+1 handicap) @ 1.44
⚽ Over 2.5 goals @ 1.95
🎯 Shooting stats: Fiorentina love a shot but lack accuracy
Fiorentina went with a stronger team than expected in midweek, particularly in the attacking line, where Nico Gonzalez and Lucas Beltran both got the full 90 minutes. Both are likely starters in this game, with the former set to be moved to the right wing.
Gonzalez is likely to have a high shot count in this game. He has had 11 efforts in his last three matches, so odds of 1.33 for him to have another three or more here look good value. While he has lots of shots, his accuracy is poor, with just four of these testing the keeper.
Similarly, Andrea Belotti is having lots of shots with little luck when it comes to finding the target. The striker has had 11 shots in his last 196 minutes of action and has failed to work the goalkeeper. With at least three shots in four of his last six appearances, the Fiorentina stats should the ex-Roma striker is worth backing in this regard on a bet builder, but for efforts on target, it’s better to forget him.
For the visitors, Romelu Lukaku will carry much of the threat. After a slow start to the year, he has goals in each of his last two matches, and has shots on target in three of the last six. Odds on him working the home goalkeeper at least twice at 2.88 look big.
Paulo Dybala is also one to watch. He has shots on target in four of his last five matches and is Roma’s penalty taker. With five goals in his last three outings, he is a player bang in form.
With a comfortable advantage in Europe, the visiting team’s best players are likely to get big minutes, which is valuable to consider for a Fiorentina v Roma bet builder.
Predictions:
⚽ Nico Gonzalez to have 3+ shots @ 1.33
⚽ Andrea Belotti to have 3+ shots @ 1.80
⚽ Romelu Lukaku to have 2+ shots on target @ 2.88
⚽ Paulo Dybala to have 1+ shots on target @ 1.50
🛑 Fouls stats: Cristante to cause trouble
Given that Bryan Cristante commits 2.26 fouls per 90 on average, including at least 1 on every Serie A match he has played this season (with the exception of the derby against Lazio), odds on him to give away at least one free kick at 1.1 look very generous. He virtually always plays 90 minutes after all.
Cristante has also committed multiple fouls in four of his last Serie A matches, with the exception the Inter loss in which he was taken off – the only time he has not played the duration for Roma when he has featured this season.
The Roma stats show that Leandro Paredes is good odds to be shown a yellow card. The Argentine has 11 in Serie A this season in just 25 matches, averaging one every 180 minutes he’s on the field. Paredes has gone four games without picking one up for the first time this season, but even so, 2.75 on him to be shown a card is still attractive.
Fiorentina’s answer to Cristante is Cristiano Biraghi, who is a left-back who has gone only three Serie A matches this season without committing a foul. Odds of 1.25 on him to commit at least one infringement look very good value indeed. He has committed multiple fouls in seven of his last 11, which he is a remarkably long 2.2 to do again here.
Predictions:
⚽ Bryan Cristante to commit 2+ fouls @ 1.57
⚽ Paulo Dybala to be shown a card @ 2.75
⚽ Cristiano Biraghi to commit 1+ fouls @ 1.25
