Bassey lined up at left back for Fulham in their 1-1 draw against Brighton. It’s fair to say he didn’t really look comfortable in the role as he committed a foul and was shown a yellow card.

He should shift back to his centre back role here, but whatever position Bassey plays in this Fulham backline, he’s likely to be regularly tested by Manchester United’s new look attack.

Bassey committed 26 fouls across his 34 Premier League appearances last season (0.76 per 90). He’ll be up against a front three of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, all of which are likely to have various duels with the centre back:

Matheus Cunha - 2.46 fouls won p/90 (24/25 PL)
Bryan Mbeumo - 1.16 fouls won p/90 (24/25 PL)
Benjamin Sesko - 0.75 fouls won p/90 (24/25 Bundesliga)

This trio should regularly cause Bassey problems. Manchester United drew 19 fouls from Arsenal on the opening weekend of the season, Sesko didn’t start the game but Cunha and Mbeumo won six fouls between them.

If Bassey does line up at left back again, he’ll have the added assignment of managing Amad Diallo who is expected to support Bryan Mbeumo at right wingback. Diallo was fouled twice when he came on against Arsenal and averaged 1.33 fouls won per 90 in the Premier League last season. Bassey committed a foul in two of the three head to head meetings between the sides last season, picking up a yellow card in the clash at Old Trafford.

There is real value when backing this selection with Bet365, the same pick is priced as low as 1.25 with other major bookmakers.
