📈 Fulham v Nottingham Forest Form & Tactics

Fulham’s form has been patchy of late as Marco Silva attempts to find a way to make his side as solid as they’ve been in recent seasons. Silva has always been an excellent manager when it comes to constructing out of possession structures, his 4-4-2 shapes at Craven Cottage can be very tough to crack - but he’s had to sacrifice this solidity a little this season to make Fulham a force in the final third.

We can see this when looking at Fulham’s recent matches. They’ve seen BTTS in each of their last five matches in the Premier League, including the two victories they’ve managed in this period against Tottenham and Burnley - both away wins. This sequence also includes a crazy nine goal thriller against Manchester City at Craven Cottage, which is perhaps the clearest evidence that Silva has been willing to take more risk in matches.

Nottingham Forest are starting to really click under Sean Dyche having won their last two games heading into this fixture against Utrecht and Tottenham. There’s still work to do for Forest to pull away from the drop zone, but I think they’ll be fine from this position with Dyche at the helm - who has made a career from getting sides out of trouble.

Forest are playing in quite a direct manner with Dyche’s side ranking sixth for long balls in the Premier League (21.5 per game) and fourth for successful crosses (4.80 per game). Dyche may look to target the centre back duo here with those direct balls, Bassey being away at AFCON means that Jorge Cuenca is likely to make just his third Premier League start of the season.

📔 Fulham v Nottingham Forest Formation & Team News

Fulham have three key players away at AFCON at the moment so Marco Silva will have to adjust his side accordingly.

Chukweze was still setting into the squad, but did show his value in Fulham’s nine goal thriller with Manchester City - however, the big misses for Fulham are Iwobi and Bassey who have been near ever presents in the starting lineup for Silva this season.

Marco Silva has noted, on a few occasions, that he needs a deeper squad to cope with the demands of the Premier League and his squad management will be tested over the coming weeks with Fulham needing solutions to missing these key players.

Josh King, Kevin and Emile Smith Rowe should be able to cover for Iwobi, but Bassey’s potential replacements are less convincing and may lead to Fulham giving up chances from a lack of familiarity between Cuenca and Andersen at the back.

Forest will line up in a 4-2-3-1 with their biggest AFCON casualty being Ibrahim Sangare who was just starting to settle into the starting lineup under Sean Dyche - as displayed by the goal and two assists he registered against Tottenham last time out. Sangare being missing for a few weeks isn’t as damaging to Forest as Fulham’s absences with Douglas Luiz ready to step in as a temporary replacement.

Forest do have quite a few players on the treatment table, including Matz Sels who is a doubt for this clash. Ola Aina, Chris Wood and Ryan Yates are also expected to miss out here.

📊 Fulham v Nottingham Forest Key Stats

  • Fulham have seen BTTS in each of their last five matches across all competitions.

  • Forest have won seven of their 12 matches under Sean Dyche so far.

  • Harry Wilson has registered eight goal contributions across just 13 Premier League starts this term.

  • Callum Hudson Odoi netted twice and registered an assist in his most recent Premier League appearance.
