Galatasaray have scored nine goals in this season’s edition of the Europa League, they are subsequently the joint-highest scorers in the competition at present.

Those nine goals equate to an average of 3 goals per game, and Spurs will be wary of this before Thursday. At the same time, Ange Postecoglou’s men are no slouches in front of goal, having scored an average of 2.33 themselves, we are backing three or more in total here with two talented forward lines on display.

Both sides have recorded a for and against average total corner count which currently sits in double figures. The hosts enter this match with an average of 10.80, the visitors as high as 12.33 by comparison.

If we drill down to how many corners either side has earned in Europe this season, the metric drops to 6.60 for Galatasaray and 6.67 for Spurs. The Premier League side are likely to take a less adventurous approach here and try and control the game and prevent the home crowd impacting proceedings, which could lead to less corners that usual here.

Tottenham’s first three European outings of the season have seen them outfit collect just two cards. A red card for defender Radu Dragusin against Qarabag and a yellow for Yves Bissouma in the same game serves up a small charge sheet for Spurs at present.

When adding this to Galatasaray’s own light touch in terms of discipline, it could mean that match referee Lawrence Visser is in for a largely quiet evening. He displayed four yellows in his previous Europa League outing and even one more on Thursday would not stop this leg from being a winner.

It could mean a rather long evening for Destiny Udogie in the Tottenham defence. The 21-year-old has committed an average of 1.25 fouls in 12 Premier League or Europa League appearances.

Our interest is also in Udogie’s ability to get forward, and because of this ability, opposition defenders have a habit of trying to stop him from starting attacks. The Italian has been fouled an average of 1.75 times in those same 12 games and this is why one foul is our pick on Thursday.

Galatasaray have been the gold standard in this season’s edition of the Turkish Super Lig. Their record of 10 league games unbeaten at the start of the campaign dovetails neatly with their unbeaten start to the Europa League season.

13 games unbeaten across the two competitions, a record that visitors Tottenham will be wary of even though they have won each of their three Europa League outings. Spurs have already displayed deficiencies on the road this season, and those same woes could haunt them again in Istanbul.

There is no doubt that Galatasaray have a wealth of attacking talent to call upon and although both Mauro Icardi and Victor Osimhen have scored four league goals each, it is the former’s ability to also score in Europe which appeals us here.

Icardi has already scored on two separate occasions in Europe, and with goals in each of Galatasaray’s European wins over PAOK and Elfsborg this season, a third in the competition at the expense of Tottenham could be on the cards at a good price.

Thursday night could also see a former Tottenham player go up against his previous employers and although Davinson Sanchez never looked totally confident when on the books of the North London outfit, it does seem as if new surroundings have given the Colombian international a new lease of life.

When looking at Sanchez’s three European performances of the season, he has committed an average of 1.67 fouls per game. Coincidentally, he has been fouled at the same average ratio and with him often in the thick of it, he may attract the attention of Thursday’s referee Lawrence Visser.

Galatasaray have averaged a total of 6.60 corners per Europa League outing this season. Although encounters against PAOK and Riga FS saw them return an above-average number, there was a far lower return in their last outing at home to Elfsborg.

A 4-3 win but only five corners registered for Okan Buruk’s men and with Tottenham conceding only 5.67 on average in this season’s Europa League, the expectation will be that Thursday’s hosts are kept to a maximum of six corners at most.
