Lamia v Levadiakos
🏟
Saturday 1st October – 5:30PM KO
The sixth round of the 2022/23 Greek Super League season will kick off with a duel between lowly sides Lamia and Levadiakos. In what should be considered as a relegation six-pointer, third-bottom Lamia will try to register their first win this season (3D, 2L) without taking any risks that would put coach Gianluca Festa’s job in danger.
It is a game between the two worst attacks in the league, as Lamia and second-bottom Levadiakos have scored a combined three goals in 10 games played thus far. The hosts were deservedly defeated by stronger sides PAOK and AEK Athens, but they have conceded just two goals in their last four games, keeping two hard-fought clean sheets against Atromitos and Asteras Tripolis.
Despite having failed to record a win, Lamia are a hard team to break down, especially taking into account that their upcoming opponents haven’t scored in three of their last five games. A poor Levadiakos side have yet to win this season (2D, 3L), and their poor start to the campaign has forced the club to part ways with coach Giannis Taousianis and replace him with experienced Jasminko Velić. The former Panathinaikos B head coach is well aware that Levadiakos are in need of the new manager bounce, but he is not expected to push for a victory and risk a damning defeat to relegation rivals, Lamia.
Both teams will be compact at the back in one of the least interesting games of this weekend’s round, as no more than 2000 fans are expected to attend the duel. Their H2H dictates that no more than two goals were scored in six of the last seven duels between the two sides. Meanwhile, seven of their 10 games this season ended with under 2.5 goals, something we should also expect from Saturday’s match.

Olympiacos v Atromitos
🏟
Sunday 18th September – 6:00PM KO
After registering three defeats in Olympiacos’ last four games and just one win in seven matches, Carlos Corberán became the second coach to be fired so far this season by the reigning champions. The club opted for the solution of an experienced in Míchel, who won two league titles with the team in the past. The Spanish coach has managed to develop a special bond with Olympiacos’ demanding fans due to the team’s Champions League success during his previous spell in the dugout.
Following a dreadful start to the season, which has seen Olympiacos sit sixth in the table, the Piraeus-based side are in desperate need of a statement win which would serve as a huge boost in morale ahead of a congested and highly demanding calendar, with 12 games in 40 days, including two derbies against Panathinaikos and PAOK, as well as four Europa League duels.
Míchel’s major task will be to solidify a defence that has conceded at least one goal in 11 of their 13 official games this season. Yet, in his second debut in the Olympiacos dugout, he can’t count on Kostas Manolas – who departed the club -, their only in-form centre-back Ousseynou Ba, who is out injured, and starting goalkeeper Tomáš Vaclík, who will be sidelined for up to three months due to an injury he picked up while on international duty.
The bad news for Olympiacos is that they will have to face a solid Atromitos side, who have registered just one defeat in their first five games of the season (2W, 2D, 1L). Atromitos have both conceded and scored at least one goal in four of these duels, something that we should expect to happen at the Karaiskakis stadium on Sunday.
Olympiacos and Atromitos have played a combined 18 official games so far this season and just two of these matches ended with under 1.5 goals. For the hosts, this is a must-win game and the new manager bounce should lead them to a much-needed victory, one which would be their first win in five games.
