The San Siro takes centre stage for the biggest game of the season as first-placed Inter Milan welcome second-placed Juventus in what promises to be a spectacular game in Serie A. With just one point separating these teams at the top, both of whom are clear of the chasing pack, the outcome of this game could be pivotal and ultimately decide the eventual winners of this year’s Scudetto.
Inter Milan’s impressive charge towards a first title in three seasons gathered yet more momentum last weekend as they recorded a credible 1-0 away win at Fiorentina, who themselves are enjoying a good campaign. That victory was their fifth in a row in all competitions and as a result, stretched the Nerazzurri’s unbeaten run to 23 games, discounting the extra time defeat to Bologna in the Coppa Italia.
Massimiliano Allegri’s side will be disappointed not to enter this clash ahead of their opponents having failed to beat a struggling Empoli side last time out, partly thanks to an early red card for Arkadiusz Milik. A win would have put Juventus top by a point, but there is still a lot to like about this team with that draw extending their own unbeaten record to 19 matches, and they arrive here in fantastic form.

⚽ Match stats: Inter to edge crucial showdown
This match is all geared up to be an epic encounter between the two best teams in Serie A at present. Both are currently enjoying incredible unbeaten runs and we feel that something has to give here as the race for the league title really gathers pace. Inter Milan have been sensational since losing the Champions League final to Manchester City last season and they are fancied to edge a tight affair.
Ingazhi’s side are flawless in every department and it’s difficult to see them passing up this opportunity to take a stranglehold on top spot, especially with home advantage. The hosts have the divisions best offensive record having scored an impressive 50 goals in their 21 league matches, while at the other end of the pitch, they boast the best defensive record having conceded just 10 in those games.
The home team are also unbeaten in the previous three head-to-head games against Juventus. Last season they drew 1-1 away and then won 1-0 here in the Coppa Italia. Their latest meeting came at the back end of last year where the sides shared the spoils in another 1-1 draw, although Inter Milan did have the better of the exchanges in that game.
Predictions:
⚽ Inter Milan to win @ 1.80
🎯 Shooting stats: Calhanoglu back with a bang
Given they have scored 50 goals in the league this term, it’s no surprise that Inter Milan have one of the best averages when it comes to shots on target. In fact, only Napoli and Atalanta have had more than the hosts this season, with Inzaghi’s side registering an average of 4.86 per game. They also had four in the reverse fixture this season and there is plenty of value in taking them for four in this one.
One player who represents plenty of value from an individual perspective is Hakan Calhanoglu. The Turkish midfielder is not afraid to have a pop at goal, shown by his 34 efforts this season, and he arrives here fresh having served a one-match suspension. He’s also in very good form having scored three in his last three games.
The other obvious choice from a shots on target angle has to be Lautaro Martinez. The Argentinian is the league’s top goalscorer with 19 goals and is averaging 1.58 shots on target per 90 minutes played this season. Inter Milan’s target man is certainly a big game player and he was heavily involved in the reverse fixture as he amassed a couple on target and also got on the scoresheet.
Predictions:
⚽ Hakan Calhanoglu 1+ shots on target @ 1.80
⚽ Lautaro Martinez 1+ shots on target @ 1.30
⚽ Inter Milan 4+ shots on target @ 1.36
🛑 Fouls stats: Gatti and Rabiot on the radar
The visitors rank eighth in Serie A for the number of fouls committed, racking up 12.31 per game this season. That was evident in the reverse fixture as Juventus matched their seasonal average with 12 fouls. Inter Milan are not exactly renowned for drawing a lot of fouls themselves, but there are a couple of really interesting individual battles in this particular game, and there is value to be found.
Federico Gatti is one of those players that could draw the attention of the officials in this game. The Juventus defender has made a total of 22 fouls in his 19 appearances this season, an average of 1.16 per game. He’s likely to be tasked with marking the dynamic duo of Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez, both of whom draw plenty of fouls per game each (1.19 and 1.74 respectively).
There is good reason to focus on fouls for French midfielder Adrien Rabiot in this contest, and the combative Juventus player is taken for a couple and maybe a card. Rabiot has made 29 fouls in his 18 matches in Serie A, an average of 1.61 per game. With Nicolo Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to deal with in a competitive area, he looks likely to get himself in trouble.
Predictions:
🛑 Federico Gatti 1+ fouls @ 1.30
🛑 Adrien Rabiot 2+ fouls @ 1.91
🛑 Adrien Rabiot shown a card @ 2.80
