Israel v Belgium
📅
Kick Off: Sunday 17th November at 19:45
🏆
Competition: UEFA Nations League
Although it’s not yet official, Israel have probably come to terms with relegation given they require a 3-0 victory on Sunday against a Belgium side who although uninspiring, have not sunk low enough to suggest that could be remotely on the cards here.
Neither side will be best pleased with how their campaigns have gone, with Israel sitting rock bottom with just one point, and Belgium not far off with four.
⭐ Israel v Belgium Best Bet
Belgium have racked up over 5.5 corners in each of their five Nations League games; in fact, not once have they taken fewer than 7.
Overall the Red Devils have averaged an insane 8.4 corners per 90 with that average rising to 9.33 in their last three games.
Israel have conceded 7 or more corners in four of their five games including their opening clash with Belgium. Over the course of their last three games, Israel have allowed a remarkable 28 corners to be taken by their opposition.
👕 Israel v Belgium Predicted XI
🔍 Israel v Belgium Players To Watch
🔴 Johan Bakayoko
With both the bookies (and us) anticipating Belgium to create plenty of chances, it’s reasonable to expect Bakayoko to get a couple of opportunities.
He’s set to make his first start of the competition after an impressive Eredivisie season, where he’s averaged 3.55 shots and 1.37 shots on target per 90 minutes. He’s hit the target at least once in each of his last five matches.
Israel, meanwhile, have struggled defensively, conceding at minimum five shots on target in every game, including eight in their opener against Belgium.
🔴 Lois Openda
Openda has made an impressive start to the Bundesliga season, registering 14 shots on goal, averaging 1.52 per 90 minutes.
While he didn’t score against Israel, he still managed to test the keeper twice, repeating the feat against France soon after. Playing alongside Lukaku in the previous game didn’t yield much success, and it’s expected that Domenico Tedesco will adjust by starting Openda as a lone striker.
In Israel’s two most recent matches, Retegui and Kolo Muani, starting strikers for Italy and France, both hit the target at least twice.

💻 Israel v Belgium Form and Tactics
Although Israel did pick up their first point of the tournament as they held France to a draw most recently, it’s unlikely to inspire a huge resurgence and only a 3-0 win would be enough to prevent automatic relegation.
Given this goal is such a stretch, it’s tough to say whether Israel will opt for a more attacking approach, or simply accept their fate and play for a draw. Their 5-4-1 setup enabled the creation of just 0.05xG against France so it remains to be seen if they’ll switch things up a bit.
Belgium almost certainly will. They experimented with a 5-3-2 last time out against Italy, enabling them to play Openda and Lukaku alongside one another.
It didn’t work out and despite a minor late influx of energy, they finished the game having accumulated just 0.52xG to the 2.48 of Italy.
As such, and given the weaker opposition, they’re likely to revert to a 4-2-3-1 transitioning into a 4-1-4-1 on the ball to ensure they have enough men forward.
🏁 Israel v Belgium Ref Watch
- Referee: Sebastian Gishamer
- He doesn’t have a boatload of experience by any means in UEFA competitions, and this’ll be the seventh of his career.
- He’s averaged an impressive 26.67 fouls per 90 – although the small sample size must be taken into account.
- As for yellow cards, it’s still on the higher end of what you might expect, averaging 4.33 per 90.
