Lens v Rennes

Lens and Rennes should be a match that is loaded with excitement, with the home side coming into this game as one of the form teams in Ligue 1. Look for this game to produce at least three goals.

Indeed, Lens played quite beautifully last weekend to score a 4-1 win over Monaco away from home – and it was a result that could have been even more lopsided considering how many opportunities they created. They were also prolific in their only previous home match this season, overcoming Brest 3-2. 

In between these games was a 0-0 draw with Ajaccio, but given the grim defensive nature of the Corsican side, that should not be anything too great to worry about.

Rennes, meanwhile, have been a good deal more dangerous than their results would suggest. Although they have scored only three goals this season, they post an xG over their three matches of 6.09. With a quality set of attacking players, even allowing for injuries to Lovro Majer and Arnaud Kalimuendo approaching this weekend, they are unlikely to remain in this type of deficit for long.

Both of these clubs look very good going forward but look distinctly less secure when they have to defend. That has not been fully exposed this season yet because they have both played two weaker teams plus an out-of-sorts Monaco who had a player sent off in each game. Saturday could be the day their weaknesses are exposed.
