Introduction
Ronald Koeman enters his second stint in charge of the Dutch National team, having initially led from February 2018 to August 2020. Koeman managed Netherlands for the 2018/19 Nations League, which saw them register a strong run to the final. A runners-up medal was far from a disaster, and Koeman will be looking to better the achievement in his first major international tournament as the Dutch manager.
Netherlands showed fantastic grit and determination at the World Cup, having topped their group, they cruised past USA in the round of 16 before drawing Argentina in the quarter-finals. It was one of the most memorable games at the World Cup, a late Weghorst brace pulled the Dutch back from the depths, before they ultimately failed on spot-kicks.
We can expect something similar from a country desperate to prove their worth on the international stage.

🔮 Euro 2024 predictions
Tournament Prediction: Group Stage exit
You can back Netherlands to finish in third place in Group D @ 3.60 on Paddy Power.
Netherlands were impressive at the World Cup, and unfortunate to exit in the manner they did. Since then however, that same starting eleven hasn’t played together as often as they would’ve liked.
Timber is just returning from an injury which has kept him out for now of the season and Denzel Dumfires has fallen out of favour with Inter Milan. It’s a similar story for Cody Gakpo, struggling for minutes under Klopp. Frenkie de Jong has had an injury-hit season, as has Nathan Ake.
Key players are out of form, lacking game time or nursing injuries. In international competitions, you have to hit the ground running – the Group stages last just three games. Given the lack of rhythm in the Dutch side, it’s possible to see them dropping points in multiple games.
Netherlands Euro 2024 Qualifying Data
📖 How they qualified
Didier Deschamps has had the number over Ronald Koeman in the qualifiers and France have emerged as somewhat of a bogey team for the Dutch.
Netherlands finished Group B with six wins and two losses – no prizes for guessing who the two losses came against. They will be eager to enact some retribution at Euro 2024.
When they’ve gone into a game as favourites, the Dutch have been wholly convincing. They managed six wins from six, keeping five clean sheets in that time. That record will cause some concern for fellow Group D members Poland and Austria.
There is an abundance of talent at the disposal of Ronald Koeman, although it’s uncertain what kind of team we might see. There was a lack of consistency in the qualifiers, and a lot of rotation. Led by the colossal Virgil Van Dijk, Netherlands might lean towards defensive efficiency for results.
👕 Players to watch
Koeman seemed adamant to experiment, as skipper Virgil Van Dijk was the only player to start in all eight qualifying games. Liverpool teammate Cody Gakpo finished as the top scorer (3) from the qualifiers, tied with Wout Weghorst and Calvin Stengs. The latter, however, inflated his stats with a hat-trick against Gibraltar, and might not be such a familiar face at Euro 2024.
Denzel Dumfries comfortably topped the assist charts for Netherlands, racking up five. Given his lack of form on a domestic level, he could be set to lose his position to the in-form Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen.
Having secured an Eredivisie title, Joey Veerman is set for a big role under Koeman. His domestic form has been incredible, with 14 assists in 27 games for PSV. In the qualifiers, Veerman averaged the second-most key passes (2.75) per 90 minutes for the Dutch, behind Gakpo.
In addition, he had the most progressive passes (16.1), and most passes in general (80). His influence in the centre of the park will be massive, and a lot of the onus will fall on the shoulders of Veerman to provide.
