Rangers will bring the curtain down on their Europa League campaign when they face Porto at the Estadio do Dragao on Thursday night.

It’s been a miserable season for Rangers in Europe, whose qualification hopes faded early, though they did record a 1-0 win over Ludogorets last week.

Since then, Danny Rohl’s side have moved within four points of Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts after claiming a comfortable 3-0 victory over Dundee.

Porto, meanwhile, have already punched their ticket to the knockout stage and are still vying for a top eight finish that would propel them straight into the round of 16.

📈 Porto v Rangers Form & Tactics

Chasing down a top-eight finish in the Europa League standings, Porto still have plenty to play for heading into Matchday 8. Francesco Farioli’s side are in 9th place in the table, with only goal difference keeping them out of the top eight. Last Thursday night, Porto dropped points when being held to a 1-1 draw by Viktoria Plzen.

Porto are enjoying a remarkable campaign in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, leading the table by seven points and unbeaten in 19 matches. Even more impressive, the Dragons have won 18 of those 19 games, most recently cruising to a 3-0 victory over Gil Vicente on Monday night.

The Portuguese powerhouses have won all three of their home matches in this season’s Europa League, with their only defeat coming away at Nottingham Forest back on Matchday 3.

Two of Porto's last four opponents in the Europa League have received a red card.

With a top-24 finish out of reach, Rangers head to Portugal on Thursday night playing for little more than pride. The Light Blues have collected just four points from a possible 21 in this season's Europa League, with their solitary victory coming last week with a narrow 1-0 win over Ludogorets at Ibrox.

Domestically, however, it's a completely different story. Danny Rohl's side have built some serious momentum in the Scottish Premiership title race, capitalising on Hearts and Celtic's 2-2 draw on Sunday by cruising past Dundee 3-0. That result lifted them to 2nd in the table, four points behind leaders Hearts, and marked their sixth straight league win - with Rohl's men keeping clean sheets in each of their last three.

It's also worth noting that Rangers managed to silence their opponents for the first time in this season's Europa League with last week's 1-0 win over Ludogorets.

📔 Porto v Rangers Formation & Team News

Porto’s impressive season has been built around a 4-3-3 formation under Francesco Farioli. The Porto boss is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young coaches, with a philosophy built on controlling possession and pressing opponents relentlessly.

On the fitness front, Andrei Franco, Nehuen Perez and Tomas Perez are sidelined, while Luuk de Jong is a doubt. Veteran defender Thiago Silva is also unavailable, having returned to Porto during the current transfer window and thus ineligible to feature.

Danny Rohl spent the early part of his Rangers tenure trying out different systems, though he appears to have settled on a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Injury problems continue to mount, with Bailey Rice, Connor Barron, Derek Cornelius, and Dujon Sterling all sidelined, while John Souttar and Yousef Chermiti are doubts. Meanwhile, Clinton Nsiala, Nedim Bajrami, and Rabbi Matondo were omitted from Rangers’ Europa League squad.

Rangers’ personnel issues are compounded by the fact that January recruits Andreas Skov Olsen, Tochi Chukwuani and Tuur Rommens cannot feature on Thursday night.
