Last year’s winner and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe favourite, KALPANA, ought to prove hard to beat if repeating her excellent second in the G1 King George Stakes at Ascot last time.

She is 2-3 on the all-weather and has a class advantage over her rivals – her nearest market challenger is 5lb below my selection.

At fancy each-way prices I quite liked PUSH THE LIMIT for a tilt at the St Leger. He has been taken out of the latest entry but still has plenty to offer.

The Le Havre colt was making his handicap debut in a strong Goodwood handicap – beating a subsequent winner in the process. Despite a 7lb rise for winning that day, he is expected to continue his progress as a thoroughly unexposed type.

I’m aiming to keep the ball rolling with my each-way Lucky 15, following all four selections placing on Wednesday. VALIANCY may be an obvious in-form selection but holds excellent claims, following back-to-back placings over 1m6f.

The first of those came on handicap debut at this venue, with the form of that contest working out extremely well. Last time, he kept on nicely for second, suggesting a win isn’t far away. 

I think we have yet to see the best of DRAMATIC STAR, who was sent off favourite for the Melrose at York last season. He was disappointing that day but his trainer clearly holds him in good regard, and he firmly returned to form with an all-weather win after being gelded.

A subsequent sixth over an inadequate trip at the Shegar Cup can easily be excused, in what proved to be a slowly-run affair. I’d be surprised if he were not able to at least challenge for the places. 

DASH OF AZURE built on solid two-year-old effort with a handicap debut success at Kempton, prior to a pair of good runs at Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood.

The Blue Point filly got going too late at York last time – possibly not performing as well as she may have done, from entering the home straight widest of all. She remains a potentially well-handicapped type and holds genuine each-way claims.

ETERNAL SUNSHINE has had a productive season so far and excelled in a recent track and trip success. She is up 6lb in the weights but as a mare who is thriving, we may see further progression, especially as arriving undefeated here.

If she makes the most of her high draw and bags the stands’ rail, I’d be confident of a big display.
