After losing such an important game, like one against your major rivals (losing 1-0 away to Sheffield United), Sheffield Wednesday will be especially keen to get back on track on Saturday. Cardiff at home is certainly a winnable fixture and it’s definitely an opportunity to put the defeat to Sheffield United behind them.

Cardiff themselves had been in strong form once Omer Riza was initially installed as interim boss. They were six unbeaten but have now suffered back-to-back losses. The fact Riza is yet to be made the new manager in itself is quite concerning and suggests the owner is not totally convinced by him.

Sheffield Wednesday have seen six of their eight home league contests this season feature a minimum of one goal. They will try to begin this on the front foot, knowing this is a winnable game.

10 of Cardiff’s 15 league assignments this season have also contained at least one goal before half time.

Josh Windass has been a key man for the Owls for some time now. Even when there has been a change of manager, he has been one to frequently remain on the books and in the team. That has been the case under Danny Röhl as well. The German boss has utilised him in various positions just to keep him in the side.

Interestingly, the former Rangers forward has scored four times this season in league action across four matches, all of which his team went on to win, including three times at Hillsborough. He found the back of the net in their last home contest; a 2-0 triumph over Norwich. He clearly loves it in front of his adoring supporters.

Windass has also been a regular and frequent goal threat in recent times. Over his previous five appearances he has averaged 2.20 shots in this period, proving his willingness to try and work the opposing goalkeeper. In two of his most recent three, the 30-year-old has also recorded two shots on target, demonstrating his accuracy when shooting, too.

The home side could easily blow the visitors away early on. Even so, Cardiff are not the greatest on their travels given only Oxford and Plymouth have achieved fewer away points in the Championship. The Bluebirds are not the strongest especially in the first half. They are ranked 21st in the division based purely upon their form across the opening 45 minutes. As for their first half record away from home, Cardiff are ranked joint-bottom.
