St Leger day kicks off with a handicap over a mile. TREBLE TEE rates an obvious selection, following back-to-back seconds since switching to handicap company. The Persian King gelding caught the eye in a competitive Goodwood handicap last time, suggesting he may not have yet reached the ceiling of his improvement. The booking of Oisin Murphy is a positive, and it would be a surprise if Treble Tee weren’t up to at least fighting out the finish.

OXAGON made a satisfactory debut in a decent Newmarket maiden, which has worked out extremely well. He bolted up by eight lengths at Sandown on second start. The Frankel colt pulled clear in the manner of a quality type and he could have more progression to come for his top stable.

ROSARIO is certainly one who offers each-way appeal at fair odds for trainer Roger Teal. He can be slowly away but if able to get away on terms, has all the ability to go close, despite this obviously being a competitive sprint handicap. He is also a well-handicapped individual, being 3lb below his last winning mark, and ran well on sole start at this track – third in the G2 Flying Childers, as a two-year-old.

I would rather try to find one who may run into the places than back Shadow Of Light at a short price. The Godolphin runner is eased in class but has a question to answer after a couple of modest efforts. ROOM SERVICE could be up to causing a minor upset. The son of Kodi Bear is undefeated at Doncaster and has placed form in Group Three company. First-time headgear may prove to be a catalyst for improvement, too.

CARMERS offers sound each-way claims in the final classic of the season. The Paddy Twomey-trained colt won for my column over 1m6f at Royal Ascot, prior to a good second in Group Two company at York. That fine effort came over 1m4f and he will be more effective stepping up in distance. I can see him keeping on strongly down the long Doncaster straight - playing a part in the finish for the placings.

NOVA CENTAURI should prove hard to beat if able to build on an encouraging debut third at Newbury. The rise in trip looks a positive move, given the way he finished strongly that day, and it’s interesting that the stable has won two of the previous three runnings of this contest.

SOVEREIGN SEA is an obvious and likely favourite for this 1m2f handicap. He had little chance in a slowly-run Chelmsford handicap last time and is best judged on his second at Newbury in May. I firmly think he is well handicapped and can play a part in the finish, for his top stable.
