Stuttgart v Atalanta
📅
Kick Off: Wednesday 6th November at 20:00
🏆
Competition: UEFA Champions League
📺
Watch Live: TNT Sports 7
Stuttgart’s campaign began with defeat at the hands of Real Madrid followed by a draw at home against Sparta Prague, but their first win arrived last time out away at another of Italy’s finest, Juventus.
Atalanta are yet to taste defeat, picking up a win against Shakhtar Donetsk and draws against Celtic and Arsenal.
⭐ Stuttgart v Atalanta Best Bets
We’re not expecting a goal-fest at the MHP Arena as two of Stuttgart’s and two of Atalanta’s opening three matches in this season’s Champions League have produced under 2.5 goals.
The Italians are yet to concede a single goal in this competition but have only scored three goals themselves, while Stuttgart have scored exactly one goal in each of their three matches and kept their first clean sheet on matchday three so you can see why we’re predicting a low-scoring affair.
👕 Stuttgart v Atalanta Predicted XI
🔍 Stuttgart v Atalanta Players to Watch
🔴 Deniz Undav
Only the injured Jamie Leweling has taken more shots in the Champions League for Stuttgart this season than Deniz Undav.
The former Brighton winger has taken a shot 11 times in his three appearances in Europe’s elite club competition and he is averaging 4.16 shots per 90 minutes. While Undav might only have a shot on target ratio of 36.4% in the Champions League this season, we still think he’s a good shout for 2+ Shots on Target against Atalanta.
🔴 Alexander Nubel
We’re expecting Stuttgart’s Alexander Nubel to be the busier of the two goalkeepers in this game as the German shot-stopper has faced 12 shots on target in his three Champions League matches so far.
Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi, who has also played in all three group games, has only faced four shots on target and has a 100% save percentage. Nubel has saved eight of the 12 shots he has faced which makes for a save percentage of 66.7%.
🔵 Ederson
Out of both squads, nobody has been awarded as many yellow cards as Atalanta’s Ederson in the Champions League this season with the Brazilian picking up two bookings in three appearances.
Ederson isn’t even close to the top of the list for tackles made in the Atalanta squad (2), that honour goes to Sead Kolasinac (8). However, the midfielder has committed the most fouls for his team in this competition (4) and that’s why he is a prime candidate to be shown a yellow card against Stuttgart.

💻 Stuttgart v Atalanta Form and Tactics
Stuttgart boss Sebastian Hoenes has played two different formations across the three opening games in this competition, favouring a 4-3-3 system on the road but changing to a 3-4-3 at home against Sparta Prague.
The Bundesliga side like to play with the ball and enjoyed 54% of the possession away at Real Madrid, 76% at home to Sparta Prague on matchday two, and shared the possession 50/50 during their 1-0 win in Turin where their xG was their highest so far at 2.5.
Much like his counterpart, Gian Piero Gasperini has used two systems in the Champions League, 4-3-3 at home against Arsenal and Celtic, both of which ended goalless, and a 4-1-4-1 formation during the 3-0 win against Shakhtar.
As you might expect, Atalanta’s xG was at its highest against Shakhtar, 2.6, and its lowest during the 0-0 draw with Arsenal, 1.2, but the Italians reached an xG of 2.4 against Celtic and really should have won that game.
