Augsburg v Frankfurt
🏟
Sunday 16th January – 2:30PM KO
Eintracht Frankfurt will be desperate to make amends for last weekend’s embarrassing defeat to Borussia Dortmund, when they let a two-goal lead slip and lost the game 3-2. Poor Augsburg will undoubtedly feel the brunt force of that frustration on Sunday in the German Bundesliga.
Markus Weinzierl’s relegation battlers haven’t been entirely terrible in the Bundesliga recently, with just two defeats from their last five league games and have only lost one of their last six home games in the competition too.
However, as Hoffenheim, Bayer Leverkusen and even Bochum have shown, the Augsburg Arena is no fortress against a well-drilled side and that’s exactly what Frankfurt now are under new head coach Oliver Glasner.
Despite last weekend’s result, the Eagles have won six of their last eight league games and only three teams have picked up more points on the road than Frankfurt have in this current league campaign.
With a relatively full-strength side and a point to undoubtedly prove, Frankfurt are the strong favourites for this tie and should make short work of their Bavarian opponents on Sunday afternoon.

Arminia Bielefeld v Greuther Furth
🏟
Sunday 16th January – 4:30PM KO
Sunday’s late kick off is unquestionably a juicy relegation six-pointer in the Bundesliga as Arminia Bielefeld in 17th place welcome Greuther Furth in 18th place to the Schuco Arena in the hope of picking up all three points.
Furth have been simply terrible this season but it wouldn’t be overstepping the mark to say they’ve been even worse than terrible on the road. From nine away games, Stefan Leitl’s side haven’t picked up a single point, scored just six goals and conceded a huge 34 in return.
Admittedly, Arminia haven’t been much better, which is exactly why they’re only one spot above Furth in the league table. So far this season Frank Kramer’s side have only picked up three wins from 18 games. However, they should have a slight advantage in this game.
Where Furth have been useless on the road, Arminia have shown some grit and determination at home with draws against FC Koln and Wolfsburg as well as a win over Bochum in recent weeks. Indeed, Sunday’s hosts have managed to avoid defeat in six of their nine home games this season.
This is undoubtedly set to be a grueling affair for both teams but it should be an opportunity for Arminia to put further distance between themselves and bottom place, as well as bag a vital three points at this stage in the season against a Furth side that continue to look entirely hopeless at this level.
