AEK Athens v Atromitos
🏟
Sunday 16th October – 2:00PM KO
Having grabbed an impressive 2-0 victory away at Aris last weekend, AEK Athens are set to host Atromitos in the second game to take place at their new ground, the OPAP Arena. AEK were dominant against Aris, playing some great football in a game where they could have scored four or five goals.
Matías Almeyda’s side boast the best attack in the Greek Super League, averaging two goals per game thus far. Despite sitting second, six points behind leaders Panathinaikos, they are considered by many as the most entertaining side at the time being. AEK’s forward trident of Sergio Araujo, Levi Garcia and Orbelin Pineda have scored a total of eight goals, also recording four assists.
On Sunday, they will face a solid Atromitos side, who will take to the OPAP Arena pitch after beating PAS Giannina 2-1 to grab their first victory on home soil this season. Only three teams have scored more goals than Atromitos this season, and only four have conceded more than Chris Coleman’s side.
Their H2H dictates that only one of the last eight AEK vs Atromitos at AEK’s home ground have ended with under 1.5 goals, while AEK have won both their last two home duels against their upcoming opponents. Taking into account how the home support pushed AEK to a comfortable 4-1 win over Ionikos in OPAP Arena’s debut, their second game at their new stadium is expected to be sold out again.
Atromitos, who have kept just one clean sheet thus far, do not have what it takes to contain the Super League’s finest attack. All but two of the 14 games that the two teams have played so far this season have ended with over 1.5 goals and this is what we should expect from Sunday’s duel, one which AEK should not struggle to win.

Lamia v Panathinaikos
🏟
Sunday 16th October – 5:30PM KO
When everyone expected Panathinaikos to drop points for the first time this season against a compact Asteras Tripolis last weekend, Ivan Jovanovic’s men found a way again to grab a narrow 1-0 on home soil. It was one of these professional wins which distinguish league contenders from the rest.
Panathinaikos may not be convincing in the last few matches, but they know how to win even when they are missing starters such as striker Andraz Sporar and playmaker Adam Čerin. The former will not have recovered in time for the game against Lamia, but the latter will be at Jovanovic’s disposal. That’s a big injury boost for Panathinaikos, who struggled to create in the final third against a compact Asteras defence. Tripoli sat back in their bid to soak up pressure and that’s exactly what Lamia will do on Sunday.
Gianluca Festa’s side have conceded just six goals in seven games, having kept one clean sheet on the road against Atromitos. Yet, they have the worst attack in the league, having scored just three goals thus far. Playing against the best defence in the league (just two goals conceded), Lamia are not expected to create much danger in front of Alberto Brignoli’s goal.
Panathinaikos have won all their last three games away at Lamia and if they manage to do so again on Sunday, the players will receive a 200,000 euro bonus from Giannis Alafouzos. Having already offered them the same figure when they won their first four games of the season, the club’s owner promised the players that they will receive the same amount again if they win their next four matches. Panathinaikos have won three games since receiving the previous bonus, which means that a win at Lamia will make the players richer and the fans happier.

Olympiacos v PAOK
🏟
Monday 17th October – 6:00PM KO
Their first clean sheet this season in the Europa League have provided Olympiacos with a boost in morale, as new coach Michel is trying to deal with defence issues. The Greek Super League reigning champions drew 0-0 away at Qarabag on Thursday, after losing all their previous three Europa League games, in which they conceded eight goals.
Michel has led his men to two league wins in a row and Olympiacos will look to build on their domestic streak in their bid to bounce back after a slow start to the season. Monday’s game against PAOK is their first derby this season and the hosts desperately need a statement win to send a message to title contenders Panathinaikos and AEK Athens.
Big summer singings Cedric Bakambu and James Rodriguez have not been registered for the Europa League matches, as they joined the club late in September. This means that they were both given a rest this week, while Michel started key midfielder duo Hwang In-beom and Yann M’Vila on the bench against Qarabag to rest them ahead of the big derby.
As for PAOK, Razvan Lucescu’s side will take to the Karaiskakis Stadium pitch without their top performer Andrija Zivkovic, who will miss out due to suspension, and their captain Adelino Vieirinha, who is out injured.
PAOK have not won any of their last four games, having recorded three 1-1 draws and a defeat. They have been struggling to create in the final third, having netted just seven goals in seven games and they have yet to win on the road this season – their last away victory dating back in March.
Without their two key players, it is doubtful whether PAOK will manage to threaten the hosts. Olympiacos have not impressed this season, but derbies are always different, and the home support will push Michel’s men to victory.
