Heerenveen v Cambuur
🏟
Sunday 1st May – 11:15AM KO
Heerenveen are getting better all the time, and they are far more prepared to play this Eredivisie derby than Cambuur. The visitors are now up to nine defeats from the last ten, but they did give PSV a good game last time out. In Heerenveen’s last game, they had the confidence to create opportunities on the counter attack away at AZ. They nearly came away with a result but a moment of quality from Alkmaar edged them past Heerenveen, who would have lost that game more heavily a few months ago.
Throughout the season, the stats suggest that the Frisians have scored more than they were ‘expected’ to. The dynamic has now changed thanks to their new striking duo – Amin Sarr in particular looks dangerous with his pace.
I think if the home side keep Cambuur at arm’s length, they’ll get some opportunities against a leaky Cambuur side. The visitors have lost each of their last five away from home, they haven’t scored in any of their last three on the road, and in those last three they have only managed to have a total of ten shots – and only one was on target.

Go Ahead Eagles v Vitesse Arnhem
🏟
Sunday 1st May – 1:30PM KO
I was surprised that Go Ahead were unable to score in their last match at Fortuna given how often their attacking players have scored lately. Four league defeats from the last five will concern Vitesse supporters, and I think the Eagles will put them under some pressure once more.
For Thomas Letsch’s team, I think they have just run out of steam. There is only one key player out (Max Wittek) and the replacement Million Manhoef has looked promising as his deputy. The problem for Vitesse seems to be that if they cannot get quality into the box from wide areas, then there isn’t a number ten who is able to add a creative spark around the penalty area as another avenue of getting a quality pass into the strikers.
Both sides come into this on the back of disappointing results, but Go Ahead will still feel more confident than Vitesse, and Vitesse still have the upper hand in terms of quality. Because of home advantage, I am tempted by a Go Ahead double chance, but Vitesse’s poor run has to end somewhere. I will go for a handicap in favour of the Eagles because Vitesse have only scored more than one goal away from home once this season, so if Go Ahead do have another unexpected bad day at the office then the visitors will be unlikely to put many past them.

PSV v Willem II
🏟
Sunday 1st May – 1:30PM KO
I have no doubts in my mind that PSV will take the three points on Sunday. Willem II picked up a rare win last weekend at home to Vitesse, but even hitting those same levels won’t help a dodgy defence keep out the host’s talent.
Roger Schmidt and his players still believe there is a chance of taking down Ajax at the Eredivisie summit. The Dutch Cup win seems to have filled them with confidence. They are on a great run too: European exit to Leicester aside, they haven’t lost any of their other previous 18 matches. A bigger test away to Feyenoord awaits next weekend, but they will be taking it a game at a time.
There is a tiny seed of doubt here because of Willem II’s win last weekend that they will suddenly turn their fortunes around. They had 36% possession against struggling Vitesse and edged out a victory. Therefore, I don’t see them troubling PSV, and you cannot look past the quality the second-placed team possess in attack, who have only failed to score in the league once this season.

Fortuna Sittard v Feyenoord
🏟
Sunday 1st May- 3:45PM KO
Fortuna have back-to-back home wins under their belt as they welcome Feyenoord to Sittard. I think they will give their illustrious opponents a good game, but ultimately lose out. If they pick up anything from this one, it will be a bonus in their fight against relegation.
I thought Feyenoord were excellent in their Europa Conference League semi-final first-leg win over Marseille (3-2) – a typical European night in De Kuip. The pressing from Arne Slot’s side was really effective and they were rewarded with yet another three goals in a splendid European performance, having now scored three for five Conference League games in a row.
They will have the tools and confidence to harm Fortuna even with the huge second leg coming on Thursday. Feyenoord having to rest players and the energy expended in their semi-final does of course give Fortuna a better chance of claiming something, which makes me tempted by the ‘over 2.5 goals’ bet. The home side do give stronger teams a run for their money in Sittard, but their defence has never been tight enough to see out a result against a top 8 club this season apart from a 2-1 win over Twente (before they went on a marvellous run to the European places).

RKC Waalwijk v FC Groningen
🏟
Sunday 1st May- 7:00PM KO
RKC lost to PEC Zwolle last time out, which means this fixture with top-half Groningen is now ever so important to take points from in their attempt to avoid the bottom three. I am unsure whether the Waalwijk outfit will get three points here even with Groningen being so poor at home to Heracles the previous weekend.
The relegation battle is unlike any I have witnessed in the Eredivisie, where the margins between complete safety, a relegation play-off, and finishing in the bottom two direct relegation spots are so small. RKC have been at a comfortable distance away for much of the campaign until now, and it is up to their experienced players to pick themselves up after a couple of disappointing results.
This could be a bit of a drab occasion, but the points would be massive for RKC. The home side will keep it tight, with a two-goal defeat to PEC Zwolle fresh in their minds; it is definitely an under 3.5 goals kind of game seeing as every RKC home game this season has been under 3.5 goals (apart from defeats to Ajax and PSV). Whilst this is very much a game that could go either way, I am backing RKC to dig out a result, hence a Double Chance tip in their favour.
