The bottom two sides in the Euro 2024 qualifiers Group E will go head to head on Sunday as the Faroe Islands host Moldova.

For a side ranked #129 in the FIFA World Rankings, the Faroe Islands have some decent home form to draw on. In their last 17 matches at Tórsvøllur, their record reads W8, D1, L8 and this includes an impressive win against Turkey this time last year. In terms of their opponents in this one, the Faroe Islands won the last meeting here against Moldova in 2021 by a 2-1 scoreline.

In fact, they are undefeated in all three of their head-to- head matches, including the reverse fixture back in March (a 1-1 draw in Chişinău). Having picked up a win in six of their last seven major tournament qualification campaigns, a home game against a side ranked 35 places below them represents their best opportunity of continuing this trend.

Moldova will be looking for their first away win in the European Championship qualifiers since beating San Marino in 2010. Despite sitting in a good position in the table, all of their points have been secured on home turf and their away form will be a real concern for manager Serghei Cleșcenco. Although they have done well on the road of late, Moldova have lost 18 of their last 23 away games in all competitions which will provide further encouragement for the home side.

A home win is fancied, but the double chance market will provide some added security as we back Faroe Islands in this one.

Finland and Denmark will battle it out as the top two clash in Euro 2024 qualifiers Group H.

Finland have bounced back from their opening 3-1 defeat to Denmark with four wins on the spin to sit in pole position in the group. The home side have been very business like since losing to the Danes with an impressive aggregate score of 10-0 in these four victories. Goals have been easy to come by recently, as they have managed to find the back of the net in their last eight competitive matches, including the reverse fixture.

Finland’s talisman, Teemu Pukki, has been influential of late, scoring one and supplying four assists this campaign. However he’s not the only player that could steal the headlines in Helsinki. Oliver Antman scored the winner on Thursday against Kazakhstan having also netted against Denmark in the 3-1 loss.

Denmark’s recent away struggles are well documented and they’ll be looking to win their first game in five matches away from home. This included the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, as they failed to register a win during the competition. During this qualification campaign, Denmark have conceded three to Kazakhstan and one to Slovenia in their away fixtures and look somewhat fragile at the back. As they look to close the two point gap at the top of the table, and accelerate away from their nearest rivals, the game could open up for Finland to snatch at least one goal.

With the evidence on show, backing Finland to score one goal seems an enticing prospect, especially at generous odds.

Serbia will travel north to take on Lithuania in Group G in what should be a routine win for the away side.

Lithuania will be looking to snap a winless run that stretches back 14 matches in all competitions, their last win coming in a friendly against minnows San Marino 18 months ago. The home side have only managed four draws in this sequence, losing the other ten. Had it not been for a last gasp goal against Montenegro on Thursday, evening, the home side would have lost yet another match in what has been a poor run of form. They will be tested against tougher opposition in the shape of Serbia here and their chances of collecting points are slim.

Serbia opened their qualification campaign with two straight 2-0 wins, firstly over Sunday’s opponents Lithuania and then away against Montenegro. However, their bid to reach their first European Championship as an independent state has faltered of late as they only managed an away draw at Bulgaria before losing to a very energetic and talented Hungarian side this week. Lithuania are however a different proposition and a front three of Dusan Tadic, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dusan Vlahovic should have more than enough to help Serbia get their qualification bid back on track.

Back Serbia to comfortably grab all three points and cement their place in the top two in the Group standings.

The Aviva Stadium will play host to the Netherlands in what is the first of two pivotal home games for the Republic of Ireland in the race to qualify for Germany.

Greece will be the visitors next month and second place is likely to be contested by these three nations. Stephen Kenny has already referenced that his team are almost in ‘must win’ territory and these next two fixtures will surely decide their fate. This may make for an open game, something which will suit the Dutch playing away from home. The Irish have notched three points from their first four matches, but this was a home win against the perennial whipping boys of the group, Gibraltar. More worryingly, The Boys in Green lost 2-1 to Greece back in June, a side which the Netherlands comfortably brushed aside on Thursday, winning 3-0.

In beating Greece, Ronald Koeman’s men leapfrogged their opponents into second place in the group and a win against Ireland can really cement their bid for automatic qualification. The Oranje hold a healthy head-to-head record with five wins in the last nine meetings between these sides (W5, D3, L1), and another strong away performance is expected here. Cody Gakpo and the exciting Xavi Simons are likely to support the experienced Wout Weghorst up top and there should be plenty of attacking intent down the flanks, especially from Denzel Dumfries who had two assists against Greece.

Backing the Netherlands to edge this encounter makes plenty of sense.
