There is plenty of football to get stuck into this Sunday, with games across Italy, Spain, France, and England. We have value bets from Serie A and the Premier League for you ahead of the day’s action.
The weekend started in emphatic fashion in Serie A. League leaders, Napoli beat Juventus 5-1 at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium to lay down a marker for the rest of the season. The club are chasing their first title since the days of the great Argentine. Sunday’s matches in Italy will have an impact at both ends of the table. Spezia are seeking to keep their head above water near the bottom, meanwhile Roma are chasing a Champions League spot and cannot afford to lose if they and to stay in touch with the pack.
There is also the small matter of the North London derby on Sunday. They have been intriguing clashes in recent years and there is a lot at stake. Arsenal are the ones setting the pace this season. They are five points clear of Man City coming into the weekend, and can extend their lead to eight points with a win against Spurs following United’s 2-1 win at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Udinese v Bologna
Bologna are conceding the fourth highest average goals per game in the league this season; with their opponents averaging 1.65 goals per game. This increases to 2.5 goals per game when they play away from home. The second worst performing defence on the road concedes 2.22 goals per game so the Bologna defence is considerably worse.
Udinese are averaging 1.62 goals per game at home. They haven’t failed to score in any of the last 11 matches between these teams. Nevertheless, the last four meetings have ended in a draw.
Roberto Pereyra has the second most goal contributions for Udinese with seven. He scored in his sides last home game and blazed an effort over the bar against Juventus. Chances were at a premium for Udinese in that game but he should get more chances when they take on Bologna. Despite being a wing-back, Pereyra has had the fourth most shots for his side this season with 21.
Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal
Arteta has a number of players who like to dribble with the ball. They are averaging the most attempted dribbles in the league with 9.47. Saka and Martinelli have been rampant in wide areas. Both should cause Tottenham a lot of problems here.
Perisic is set to start at wing-back for Tottenham. He will be directly up against Bukayo Saka here so he should have a busy in store. The Croatian has made 1 foul in his last two matches He also made a foul before being substituted in the last meeting with Arsenal.
There should be a fiery atmosphere for this one. Tottenham have performed poorly in recent weeks and they would love nothing more than to get one over their rivals. The fans will be baying for blood and I’m expecting inflated foul counts for the home side.
Roma v Fiorentina
Recent matches between the teams at the Olympic Stadium have been feisty affairs. This fixture last season saw both teams picks up a red card. There were also five yellow cards handed out. Fiorentina were also given a red card when they travelled to Rome in the 2020/21 season.
Roma’s recent matches have also been turbulent affairs. Their last 10 league matches are averaging 6.4 cards per game. Their last game against AC Milan saw a whopping 10 yellow cards. Fiorentina’s last 10 league matches are averaging 5.4 cards per game so we should see booking on Sunday.
The referee for this one is not card shy. Giua is dishing out an average of 5.7 cards per game domestically this season.
Amrabat has picked up the most cards for Fiorentina this season with 7 yellows. He will be familiar to those who paid close attention to the World Cup. The midfielder caught the eye with his outstanding performances for Morocco.
Both of Milan’s centre-midfielders were booked in Roma’s last league game. At least one opposition centre-midfielder has been booked against Roma in 10 of their last 11 league matches so Amrabat will be in the firing line here.
