In this article...
  • Sunderland have failed to win any of their last nine away matches in the Premier League, scoring just four goals in that stretch.

  • Having taken just 11 points from their 14 away matches in the Premier League, Sunderland rank 17th for total points accumulated on their travels.

  • Leeds rank lower in 18th having registered just nine points, but they have looked much more convincing on home turf this season.

📈 Leeds v Sunderland Form & Tactics

Eliezer Mayenda was on hand to score his second goal of the season at the weekend, tapping home from a rebound, before his effort was cancelled out by Evanilson around the hour mark. That 1-1 result made it four games without a win for the Black Cats - after a flying start to life in the top flight, Sunderland have dropped off in recent games, and have only won two of their last 12 league matches.

Those victories came against Burnley and Crystal Palace, two out-of-form teams, which suggests that they could struggle against Leeds, who are in much better form.

Even though Daniel Farke’s men were beaten by Man City at the weekend, they gave an excellent account of themselves. Dominic Calvert-Lewin in particular had some excellent chances in the first half, but was unable to make them count. Karl Darlow was a standout performer in between the sticks, recording a total of four saves.

That result broke a three-game unbeaten run for Leeds, and they will hope to get back on track on Tuesday night. They have only lost three games in 2026, which were against Newcastle, Arsenal, and Man City - three tough matchups.

📔 Leeds v Sunderland Formation & Team News

Daniel Farke was shown a red card after the full-time whistle at the weekend, so will be absent from the touchline midweek. He could opt for some rotation here to manage the fixture congestion, so Lukas Nmecha could return up front in place of Calvert-Lewin. Noah Okafor remains out, so Anton Stach should continue to feature in a more advanced position, with Ilia Gruev and Ethan Ampadu to pair up in midfield.

Brian Brobbey missed out against Bournemouth at the weekend due to a groin injury, which is expected to keep him out for a few weeks. Nordi Mukiele also remains in the treatment room with Reinildo, which leaves the Black Cats without some key first-team players.

Wilson Isidor could be a candidate to replace Mayenda up top, with Enzo Le Fee and Chemsdine Talbi on the flanks. Granit Xhaka has recently returned from injury, and he should partner Noah Sadiki in midfield.
