Murphy often isn’t afforded the limelight he deserves in this Newcastle side with most of the plaudits going to the likes of Guimaraes, Woltemade and Gordon. Murphy has long been a consistent performer for Newcastle, and his shot volume really stands out to me here.

Murphy has had 30 shots across his 12 appearances in the Premier League this season (3.71 per 90) - more shots than any other Newcastle player, despite only starting nine games. He’s had 4+ shots in three of his last five Premier League appearances, highlighting just how much of a shot threat he can pose to Sunderland here and possibly warranting the exploration of higher lines for Murphy. 

Murphy also tends to be quite speculative with his efforts having seen 16 of his 30 shots come from outside of the box. This could be useful against a Sunderland side that like to sit deep and soak up pressure, potentially presenting opportunities for Murphy to take aim from range.
