Tuesday’s Champions League Accumulator Tips
Ollie Watkins scored twice at the weekend to get his season up and running. In the Premier League he now has an xG of 2.8 with two goals but has taken 10 shots with 50% of these on target. Last season in the Europa League he scored 8 goals from nine starts. He didn’t tend to start in the group stage but when the knockout rounds started, he played all six, scoring three goals.
Villa will know the importance of getting off to a good start with Bayern Munich, Bologna, Juve and RB Leipzig to come, three points are required.
Young Boys in their last eight Champions League games have kept just two clean sheets. Last year in the Champions League they conceded an average of 1.63 with a xGA of 2.26.
Sporting have won all their opening five domestic games by an aggregate of 19 vs 2. Last season they went out of the Europa League in the last 16 losing to eventual winners Atalanta, but they scored in each of their five-home group and knockout matches, averaging 1.6 goals with a xG of 2.24
Lille came through qualification beating Slavia Prague 3-2 and Fenerbahce after extra time. They lost both their away games in 90 minutes conceding an average of 1.5 xGA over the four matches and 2.05 xGA per away fixture. Domestically this term they have returned W2-D0-L2. Last season in the Europa Conference League they lost the away leg to Aston Villa, 2-1 as they exited the competition in the Quarter Finals.
Milan started the season with plenty of goals at both ends. They drew two games 2-2 and then lost 2-1 at Parma. Despite the indifferent start to the season, I have them 2nd on xPTS behind Juve. They have scored nine times with a xG of 8.42 and no side in Serie A has had more touches of the ball in the opposition box or put more crosses into the box than Milan.
Last season’s Champions League campaign saw Milan start with back-to-back 0-0 draws before they opened up and saw the remaining four games all see over 2.5 match goals. This term they have Morata, Rafeal Leao, Pulisic and Tammy Abraham to cause Liverpool issues.
Liverpool have started the season well, but Man Utd had chances to score generating 1.3 xG and Forest found a way to contain the Reds whilst creating a couple of good chances themselves.
Madrid have started the season in inconsistent form with W2-D2-L0, but they will want to put on a show in the Champions League. Whilst the Champions League was in a different format last season their group games were full of goals.
They started off slowly with a 1-0 win over Union Berlin, but then there were 22 goals in the next five games and at home it was 1-0 over Union Berlin, 3-0 against Braga and 4-2 win playing Napoli. In total they played 13 games on their way to winning the competition, scoring at least twice in nine. This season they have added Mbappe to their ranks to play alongside Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo
Stuttgart have played twice in the Bundesliga this season and conceded three goals in both games. Last season they conceded in 12 of their 17 away domestic matches.
Dinamo enter the Champions League after their seventh straight league title. Last season, they finished second in their Europa Conference League group before beating Real Betis in the knockout-round before crashing out to PAOK.
They won at least three corners in eight of their 10 fixtures in last season Conference league. They had to qualify for this season’s main European competition, winning 5-0 on aggregate, but racking up three and eight corners. They will come into this game with nothing to fear.
Bayern under new manager Vincent Kompany have started well with three straight wins in the league but they have conceded two corners last time out as they beat Kiel 6-1, then despite winning 2-0 at home, they conceded four corners to Freiburg and lastly, they defeated Wolfsburg on the road 3-2 and conceded one corner.
