Wembley is the setting for a repeat of the Euro 2020 final as England host Italy in this crucial Group C match.

Fresh from a friendly against sporting rivals Australia, England turn their attentions back to qualification for Euro 2024 and in doing so meet Luciano Spalletti’s Italy. Gareth Southgate knows a win will all but secure their place in Germany and they are in great shape to secure all three points.

Harry Kane has been in great form since his move to Bayern Munich, scoring nine goals in as many games. The same can be said of Jude Bellingham as he seems to be writing his own scripts at Real Madrid at the moment, scoring almost a goal per game. Despite the absence of Bukayo Saka, Southgate can call on the likes of Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Marcus Rashford in forward areas to support Kane and there are goals all over this team.

England will want to make a statement by winning the game convincingly and that would also see them do the double over the visitors, having won the reverse fixture 2-1 in Naples. There is also the added element of revenge after Italy prevailed in the final of Euro 2020.

Italy are a side with a few problems at the moment and head to London not yet guaranteed of qualification. A substandard 1-1 draw away against North Macedonia means the pressure is really on the Azzurri if they are to avoid missing out on a second major tournament in a row, having failed to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.

The Italians have been rocked this week by the allegations made against Premier League duo Sandro Tonali and Nicolo Zaniolo, both of whom have been sent home. Spalletti also has some key figures missing with Lazio forward Ciro Immobile and Genoa’s Mateo Retegui out injured.

However, there are enough dangerous players in this side to worry England’s backline, not least the powerful Federico Chiesa. With a tricky away tie against Ukraine to come in November, Italy will feel that they need to take something from the game, which could open things up and produce an exciting contest.

With Southgate’s men out for revenge, England are backed to edge a close encounter and rubber stamp their ticket to Germany this summer, the game is likely to see a couple of goals too.

Serbia will go head to head against Montenegro in Belgrade as both teams go in search of qualification from Group G.

Serbia are desperately close to securing what would be their first appearance in the European Championships, and they can take another huge stride towards it against their old rivals Montenegro. Until 2006, these countries competed as one, but now look to qualify as independent nations and both are still in with a shout of reaching Germany in the summer.

The home side boast an array of attacking talent that includes Al-Hilal duo Aleksandar Mitrovic and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and Juventus pairing Dusan Vlahovic and Filip Kostic. Manager Dragon Stojković is certainly not short of options in forward areas and there are goals in the offing. Serbia have won all three previous meetings against their opponents, including the reverse fixture where they comfortably prevailed 2-0.

They are also particularly strong at home. Before the recent loss to Hungary, they had won seven of eight on home soil and it would be no surprise to see another win. The home side quite rightly start the game as favourites.

Montenegro have their own ambitions of reaching the finals and have enjoyed a solid enough qualifying campaign thus far. The away side currently sit in third position, just outside the top two automatic places behind Hungary and their opponents in this one. Miodrag Radulović‘s side have managed to score in four consecutive internationals and there are definitely goals in this team.

Former Manchester City forward Stevan Jovetic will provide their main attacking threat, while FC Ballkani forward Ervin Kuc may get an opportunity to start the game having scored a brace on debut in the recent friendly win against Lebanon.

However, despite their obvious flair going forward, there are defensive frailties which can be exploited as they have only kept two clean sheets in their last 11. If they are to take anything from this game they will also need to address their recent poor away form that has only seen them overcome Bulgaria and Romania on the road in their last eight trips.

Serbia are strongly fancied to win the game and win it well. Against a struggling Montenegro defence, we should see at least a couple of goals in the game too, so a home win and over 1.5 goals is the play.
