Forest Green Rovers v Mansfield Town
🏟
Tuesday 5th April – 7:45PM KO
Forest Green Rovers are three wins away from promotion to League One for the first time in their history.
Rob Edwards’ side grinded out a 1-0 win at home to bottom of League Two Scunthorpe United in their last game thanks to Dan Sweeney’s 75th minute goal. Their boss said he was “relieved” with the result as his side are now hitting form at the right time after a blip last month and are unbeaten in their last three games. They are four points clear at the summit ahead of 2nd place Exeter City and are nine points ahead of joint-4th position Northampton Town, Bristol Rovers and Tuesday’s opponents Mansfield Town. Rovers will be confident ahead of their clash against the Stags as they are the highest scorers in League Two on 67 goals in 38 matches and have only lost four times all season as they chase down promotion. In terms of team news, Udoka Godwin-Malife is back available from suspension but Edwards opted to stick with Sweeney against Scunthorpe and that decision massively paid off. Barnsley loan man Jack Aitchinson has come back into the starting XI in the past couple of matches in a move that has seen Regan Hendry drop to the bench. The former Celtic man will be fresh now after being an unused substitute over the past couple of weeks and bringing him back in to freshen up the midfield is an option for Forest Green. They have scored in 14 of their last 16 outings and will cause Mansfield problems, with their striker Matty Stevens the 2nd top scorer in the division on 23 goals.
Mansfield make the trip to the New Lawn on the back of their narrow 1-0 win over promotion rivals Northampton Town on Saturday, with Oli Hawkins scoring the only goal of the game on 21 minutes. Their manager, Nigel Clough, said they were “outstanding” and his team are on a bit of a roll at the moment, winning three out of their last four matches to rise into the play-offs. They are only outside the top three on goal difference and have games in hand on the likes of Port Vale, Northampton and Bristol Rovers around them. Their striker Rhys Oates was substituted off with a tight hamstring in their last game but they have a ready-made replacement in Jordan Bowery, who has fired seven goals and chipped in with five assists this term. Winger Jamie Murphy, who is on loan from Hibernian, was sidelined against the Cobblers but wasn’t missed by his side as Newcastle United loanee Matty Longstaff made his return to the side and is fit again now. The Stags have found the net in each of their last nine games and will be looking to extend their run of results away at Forest Green this week. The last time they didn’t score in a game was back in February against Bristol Rovers.

Salford City v Port Vale
🏟
Tuesday 5th April – 7:45PM KO
Salford City and Port Vale lock horns this Tuesday as two of the in-form teams in League Two battle it out.
The Ammies are making a late charge for the play-offs and picked up an impressive 2-0 away win at Hartlepool United over the weekend with first-half goals from two unlikely scorers in Corrie Ndaba and Jason Lowe, which shows they are spreading the goals around the team. Their boss, Gary Bowyer, has found the right formula with his team selection over recent weeks and he said he was “delighted” with the victory at the Suits Direct Stadium. The North West club are unbeaten in their last 12 league outings with their last loss coming way back on 29th January against Northampton Town away. They are only two points off the top seven now with a game in hand over 7th place Tranmere Rovers. Salford welcomed number one goalkeeper Tom King back into the side at Hartlepool after his international duty, with emergency loan signing Frank Fielding taking his place whilst he was gone, and the Wales international kept a clean sheet against the Pools. Striker Ian Henderson and midfielder Luke Burgess are both back fit now as well and provide useful competition and back-up to Bowyer’s options ahead of some big games coming up. Salford have scored 12 in their last five matches and are enjoying a hot streak in front of goal.
Port Vale have their sights firmly set on promotion to League One and carried on their strong run of form with a hard fought 2-1 win away at Barrow last time out, with defender Aaron Martin scoring the winner in the 89th minute. Their assistant manager, Andy Crosby, said the match was a “massive lesson” to his side against a side battling hard against relegation. The Valiants were without Tom Pett in the centre of midfield and he has picked up a hamstring injury so Brad Walker came in to replace him and put in a solid performance against the Cumbrians. Key midfielder Ben Garrity, who has scored 11 goals this season, missed out through illness with Harry Charsley stepping in for him. However, he is in contention to return against Salford which will be a massive boost. Port Vale are unbeaten in their last six and have lost just once in their last eight away games against Colchester United last month. The Staffordshire side are always capable of finding a goal with their strike partnership of James Wilson and Jamie Procter scoring a combined 21 goals already in this campaign.
