The 4th of July is a highlight of the sporting calendar for any American football fan and the MLS is satisfying those cravings with a batch of midweek fixtures. We kick things off in Florida where Orlando will look to brush aside a Toronto TEAM that have recently parted ways with their coach.
Then onto Los Angeles, where this month’s rendition of the LA derby will take place. The visiting LAFC arrive to face the Galaxy after a bit of a losing streak, and our MLS Scout reckons there could be goals aplenty.
Our MLS Scout has delved into each of this midweek’s MLS fixtures using Betfair Sportsbook odds. All of Wednesday’s Best Bets can be loaded via the below bet links, and you can get set up with Betfair through the offer below. Sign up to Betfair, deposit £5 on any game, and get £20 in free bets:
Orlando City v Toronto FC
It is Independence Day in the United States on Tuesday and to assist with the celebrations there are a few MLS matches to enjoy over the course of the evening, one of which comes from Exploria Stadium where Orlando City play host to Toronto FC.
Toronto FC disposed of the services of Bob Bradley last week but nothing really changed without him in their 1-0 defeat at home to Real Salt Lake at the weekend and you’ve got to wonder what mindset they will be in ahead of a lengthy trip to Florida to take on Orlando.
Toronto FC are still looking for a first win on their travels this season and now they head to Orlando who are going along really nicely at the minute.
Orlando have only lost one of their last 10 matches in MLS and that was during international week last month when they were seriously shorthanded away to New England, which isn’t an easy place to go when you are at full strength let alone light on quality.
Orlando are unbeaten in their last six on home soil and are starting to get better and better as their squad depth improves. They have been tight at the back for a while but now they are starting to get a decent outlay at the top end of the pitch.
Toronto are the team who are shorthanded with four players still away at the Gold Cup and with the uncertainty over the club right now after the manager and sporting director sackings last week, Orlando look primed to take full advantage.
LA Galaxy v Los Angeles FC
The headline match on Wednesday morning is the ‘El Trafico’ which was meant to take place in the opening week of the campaign but which was forced to be moved due to storms in the area back then.
Much like the original scheduling of this fixture, this match will take place at the iconic Rose Bowl, which is sold out and is set to smash the record for attendance at an MLS game.
This is a high-profile match at any time but particularly when you consider the stage this one will be played on. These two teams met in a US Open Cup match earlier in the season where there was plenty of fallout to confirm that this rivalry is a real one and that these two teams do not like each other.
That might mean that the game comes at a good time for LA Galaxy as it gives them an extra edge which they might need given that they are in the middle of an indifferent season, although they have put together a run of five matches unbeaten.
Los Angeles FC have lost four of their last six, which isn’t entirely unbelievable when you consider the incredible run of matches they have played over a short period of time, but a tired LAFC side will surely find it within themselves to be up for a game of this magnitude.
That makes me think we’re in for a cracking game here. This fixture is steeped in goals and I don’t expect anything to change here. There have been 19 clashes between these two and they have yielded no fewer than 82 goals. That is a trend I expect to continue given the size of this particular renewal of the rivalry.
