Novak Djokovic v Cameron Norrie
Djokovic is a heavy favourite for this clash and it’s hard to make a case against him.
OK, he did have to come back from two sets down in his quarter-final on Tuesday but that was against world number 13 Jannik Sinner, a highly-talented player who many have tipped as a future no 1.
Norrie doesn’t have the same sort of weapons.
Following Djokovic’s lengthy win, the Briton might have been able to claim an advantage had he dismissed David Goffin easily but instead he also needed the full five sets to progress, playing only seven minutes fewer.
With both men having had two days off since those battles, fatigue seems unlikely to be a decisive factor. Instead, expect Djokovic’s considerably greater tennis skills to get the job done.
The talent gap between the pair was on show in their only previous match, which came at the ATP Finals at the end of last season.
There Norrie was blown away, 6-2 6-1, failing to break the Djokovic serve and seeing his own delivery broken five times.
It really was a stroll in the park and while Norrie will be better prepared here (he started that week in Turin as an alternate), I see little to suggest he’ll be able to manage the huge turnaround from that day.
A straight-sets win for Djokovic looks backable, even at 8/15.
For something bigger, under 8.5 games in the first set at 13/8 has some appeal given what happened in that previous meeting.
You’ve also got to factor in the likely nerves in Norrie’s corner – this is first maiden Grand Slam semi-final and Djokovic’s 43rd.
Finally, for those after chunky odds, the 9/2 about a 6-0 set should not be completely discounted.
