Luke Humphries delivered one of the most dominant displays in World Grand Prix history with his stunning 5-0 semi-final win over Ryan Joyce. ‘Cool Hand Luke’ averaged north of 100, hit eight 180s and registered a 60 percent strike rate with his finishing. Humphries now faces another surprise package in Sunday’s final in the shape of Mike de Decker.

‘The Real Deal’ reached his first-ever major final with a 5-2 win over compatriot Dimitri Van den Bergh. The 28-year-old continues to impress at the 2024 World Grand Prix, having previously sent Damon Heta, Gary Anderson and James Wade packing. While de Decker’s exploits this week make him difficult to dismiss, this will be his toughest test of the tournament so far.

It’s hard to look past Humphries following his near flawless shredding of Joyce. Thus, look to ‘Cool Hand’ to come out on top alongside hitting the most 180s. This combination has clicked in each of Humphries’ last three matches, and the same selection looks worth supporting on Sunday night at 1.67. While de Decker is also known for being one of the PDC’s most prolific maximum hitters, he did lose the 180 count against both Heta and Wade.

Luke Humphries dominated his semi-final clash with Ryan Joyce from the off and he will look to pick up where he left off against Mike de Decker. ‘Cool Hand’ wrapped up the first set against Joyce in swift fashion, winning all three legs without reply.

Humphries also won the first set against Ricardo Pietreczko in round two in rapid fashion, and he then went on to convincingly claim the first set against Jonny Clayton. The defending champion will be desperate to ease himself into Sunday night’s final with another fast start, and to put de Decker under some early pressure in the process.

Despite coming from behind to win relatively comfortably against Dimitri Van den Bergh, ‘The Real Deal’ failed to take the early impetus, as he lost the opening set of his semi-final success. Thus, Humphries stands out to secure the first set on Sunday night at 1.44.

Given that both Luke Humphries and Mike de Decker are two of the PDC’s most frequent 180 hitters, siding with a minimum of one maximum in each set in Sunday night’s showpiece holds plenty of appeal.

Both players rank among the highest 180 hitters at this year’s World Grand Prix, with the pair both racking up 18 maximums en-route to the final. It’s worth pointing out that both finalists posted their highest 180 returns of the event thus far during their respective semi-final victories, with de Decker delivering nine, while Humphries hit eight. Those maximum figures are expected to increase on Sunday night given the longer format of the final.

Humphries filled up the treble 20 bed once or more in all five sets against Joyce on Saturday night, while there was at least one 180 in each of the seven sets during de Decker’s victory over Van den Bergh.
