Portugal v France Best Bets
➡️ Antoine Griezmann to be fouled 1+ times @ 1.62 with Paddy Power
➡️ Joules Kounde to commit 1+ fouls @ 1.62 with bet365
Antoine Griezmann holds plenty of appeal to be on the receiving end of one or more fouls at 1.62 with Paddy Power. The 33-year-old has earned his country a combined total of five free kicks across his four appearances at Euro 2024 to date, including two against Belgium on Monday.
Expected to be occupying the space behind Marcus Thuram up top, it’s very plausible that Griezmann could end up crossing paths with Portuguese hatchet-man Joao Palhinha, who has averaged 1.33 fouls per 90 over his three tournament appearances, while his tally during the preliminary stages sat at 2.83.
On top of this Griezmann was drawing an average of 0.88 fouls per game for Atletico Madrid during the La Liga season that has just finished, further highlighting the value in siding with the Frenchman to be fouled just once on Friday night.
Jules Kounde committed two fouls against Belgium last time out and the French defender looks worth siding with to give away just one free kick against Portugal at 1.62 on bet365. Kounde put in a Player of the Match performance against the Red Devils and he clearly relished his head-to-head battle with Jeremy Doku.
Portugal’s Rafael Leao is expected to be Kounde’s direct opponent on Friday night so the Frenchman will have his work cut out again in Hamburg. The Portuguese winger was fouled three times against Slovenia and he also earned his side a free-kick when playing just 45 minutes of his side’s 3-0 win over Turkey on matchday two. Leao’s pace and trickery saw him earn AC Milan an average of 1.86 fouls per game during the most recent Serie A season.
While Kounde is not a prolific fouler, he did commit a combined total of 11 fouls across his final 15 La Liga appearances of the season. Given the scale of his task here, a solitary foul from the Frenchman stands out at 1.62.

📊 Portugal Form and Stats
Portugal arrived at Euro 2024 in a rich vein of form but their momentum has stalled of late. While Roberto Martinez’s men won their opening two Group F fixtures, they have since failed to take top honours inside 90 minutes from their subsequent two assignments with Georgia and Slovenia. To make matters worse, the Selacao have blanked in each of their last two outings at Euro 2024.
Portugal dominated possession (72% – 28%) and peppered Slovenia’s goal with a total of 20 shots, six of which hit the target. However, the 2016 champions lacked composure in the final third against a Slovenian side who were content to sit in a low block and spring forward on the counter-attack when the opportunity presented itself. It was a similar story for the Selecao on matchday one against the Czech Republic, further suggesting Martinez’s men lack cutting edge up top.
It’s also worth noting that only three Portugal players have scored at Euro 2024, with two of their five strikes coming via own goals.
The fact no team has taken more corner kicks than Portugal (36) at Euro 2024 is further proof that they are not making their dominance count in forward areas. The Iberians have averaged a whopping nine team corners per game across their opening four matches of the competition.
Cristiano Ronaldo seemed hell-bent on getting on the scoresheet against Slovenia. In fact, that has been a running theme throughout Euro 2024, as evidenced by the fact that the legendary forward has averaged four shots per game across his opening four appearances at the tournament, with his on-target tally sitting at an average of 2.25 per game.
📊 France Form and Stats
France have been solid rather than spectacular on route to the last eight of Euro 2024. Didier Deschamps’ side have posted a pair of 1-0 wins over Austria and Belgium either side of stalemates with the Netherlands and Poland. All four of France’s games at Euro 2024 have featured under 2.5 goals, with three of those four matches producing one match strike or fewer.
Les Bleus, somewhat remarkably, have become the first team to make it this far in a European Championships without scoring a goal from open play. They have benefited from two own goals to date, whilst captain Kylian Mbappe converted a penalty against Poland on matchday three.
However, at the other end of the park, France have been one of the most well-drilled and defensively structured sides at Euro 2024. They have conceded just once in four matches and restricted a top-heavy Belgium team to just five attempts on goal, with only two of those efforts managing to work goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
France’s defensive resilience is made all the more impressive by the fact that they have collected just six yellow cards across their four outings in the competition so far. Adrien Rabiot was the recipient of two of those cautions and will consequently miss Friday night’s clash due to suspension.
Much like the aforementioned Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe has been France’s chief protagonist in terms of attempted shots. The Real Madrid-bound superstar has averaged four shots per game across his opening three appearances in the competition, hitting the target two times per 90 minutes on average.
⚔️ Portugal v France Head-to-Head
Portugal and France last crossed paths during the group stages of Euro 2020. That heavyweight battle in Budapest ended in a barnstorming 2-2 draw. Cristiano Ronaldo converted two penalties in that game for Portugal, while Karim Benzema bagged both of France’s goals, one of which came from the penalty spot.
The two sides were also housed in the same Nations League group back in 2020. The pair played out a drab 0-0 draw in Paris before France earned a hard-fought 1-0 win in the reverse fixture just over one month later. Les Bleus have triumphed in 19 of the overall 28 meetings in comparison to Portugal’s six successes, whilst the duo have drawn on three occasions.
