The end of the season is imminent for Norway’s top two divisions. OBOS-Ligaen concludes this weekend and, although the champions have been crowned in the form of Ham-Kam, there is still one play-off place undecided to see who will join them and Aalesund in next year’s top flight.
Meanwhile in Eliteserien, Glimt are on the brink of securing their second consecutive title, but time is fast running out for Brann, Stabæk and Mjøndalen at the foot of the table. With three rounds left to go, there are still plenty of intriguing fixtures to whet your appetite.
Raufoss v Åsane
🏟
Saturday 27th November – 2PM KO
🏆
Norwegian OBOS-Ligaen
The OBOS-Ligaen title has already been awarded to Ham-Kam, while second placed Aalesund are also guaranteed of Eliteserien football next year, but the play-off places are still not yet finalised. Seventh-placed Åsane have it all to play for when they visit Raufoss on Saturday in the final fixture of the campaign.
The hosts have managed to escape the dreaded harbinger of relegation, but do so by the proverbial skin of their teeth. A rotten nine-game run, in which their only wins occurred against bottom side Strømmen and relegation play-off candidates Stjørdals Blink, does not bode well for this final day fixture against a hungry Åsane side.
Åsane, on the other hand, can leapfrog KFUM Oslo into the final playoff position should they record victory over Raufoss and their competitors drop points against third-placed Jerv. With three wins in their last five outings – including a much-needed victory over KFUM – and with top-scorer Håkon Lorentzen in somewhat ominous form, the club from Bergen will be looking to do everything in their power to give themselves a fighting shot at Eliteserien football next year.

Prediction: Åsane to Win
Rosenborg v Bodø/Glimt
🏟
Sunday 28th November – 4PM KO
🏆
Norwegian Eliteserien
Rosenborg, by far Norway’s successful club and erstwhile holders of many of the division’s records, have the chance to spoil Bodø/Glimt’s coronation this Sunday, who need just one more win to ensure the title returns to the Aspmyra.
While top of the table clashes are renowned for typically being cagey affairs, where Rosenborg and Glimt are concerned this season, goals have been the primary currency. Between them, the two clubs have registered in excess of a hundred goals this campaign and with a wealth of attacking talent on display, from Glimt’s Ola Solbakken and Erik Botheim, to Rosenborg’s Noah Holm and Stefano Vecchia, you can expect more of the same when the two meet at the Lerkendal. Especially considering Glimt know they can secure the championship with an emphatic win over the country’s most prestigious club.
Furthermore, the last nine fixtures between the two sides have produced a staggering 34 goals, proving that whenever these two powerhouses meet, defending is not exactly high on the agenda. Plus, what with Rosenborg shipping four to Molde last week and with Glimt’s forward trio in scintillating form, this is a fixture that practically invites a high scoreline.

Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals
Kristiansund v Viking
🏟
Sunday 28th November – 4PM KO
🏆
Norwegian Eliteserien
Despite slipping up in Vestlandsderbyet (The Western Norway Derby) last weekend, Viking are still very much in with a chance of taking the bronze medal in this year’s championship – a feat that would represent their highest finish in Eliteserien since 2007. Kristiansund, this year’s surprise package, stand squarely in their way, but a sharp decline to the second half of their season culminated in a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of struggling Stabaek and leaves them vulnerable to the pack of clubs prowling at their heels.
Viking have one of the league’s most coveted forwards in Veton Berisha and the Kosovan-born gunman already has 20 league goals in 25 appearances, including five in his last five. Kristiansund, who have conceded 14 times in their last five outings, should represent an inviting target on Sunday, so expect Berisha to lead the Viking assault on their host’s goal.
Kristiansund have been guilty of overachieving this the season and in spite of a promising start to the campaign, their inconsistent form has caught up with them in the autumn. Since September, they have won only twice, as well as suffering damaging losses to the division’s three weakest teams in Mjondalen (5-0), Brann (3-1) and Stabaek (3-0). As such, they are the only club in the top six with a minus goal difference and do not possess the requisite defensive solidity to withstand their rapacious visitors.

Prediction: Viking to Win
Tromsø v Stabæk
🏟
Sunday 28th November – 4PM KO
🏆
Norwegian Eliteserien
After Tromsø battled to their tenth draw of the season this past weekend against Valerenga, their enrolment in a second consecutive year in Eliteserien is all but guaranteed. The country’s northernmost country may not be enjoying the stellar season afforded by their bitter rivals Glimt, but a run which has seen them lose just once in nine games actually has them down as one of the division’s in-form clubs.
Seldom do TIL keep a clean sheet – three in their last 17 fixtures, to be precise – but it is equally rare that they do not trouble the scoresheet. With a rotating roster of goal-scorers including prodigious starlet August Mikkelsen, dynamic forward Moses Ebiye and indefatigable full-back Tomas Totland, Gutan have become one of the teams most likely to register a goal outside of the established top two of Molde and Glimt.
Stabæk, on the other hand, cannot rest on their laurels as they languish in the relegation play-off spot, six points from safety with nine still to play for. Fortunately, their recent form, which consists of solid wins over Haugesund and Kristiansund, has offered supporters a sliver of hope in an otherwise gloomy campaign. Ordinarily, De Blåa struggle for goals, but with Tromso’s well-documented defensive frailties coupled with Stabæk’s newfound penchant for spoiling clean sheets, this is a game in which both teams should be expecting to find the back of the net.

Prediction: Both Teams to Score
Brann v Molde
🏟
Sunday 28th November – 6PM KO
🏆
Norwegian Eliteserien
Poor Brann have endured a torrid season. Rooted to the foot of the table with a miserable four wins to their name, relegation is all but a formality and will be mathematically guaranteed should they succumb to free-scoring Molde on Sunday. Their visitors, fresh off battering old rivals Rosenborg, still have a faint chance of catching league leaders Glimt and will be doing everything in their power to do so.
No club in Eliteserien has scored as many goals as Molde and much of this is thanks to the clinical nature of Ohi Omoijuanfo, the creative sensibilities of Fredrik Aursnes and Magnus Wolff Eikrem, and the exhilarating wing-play of Ola Brynhildsen. However, though Molde are accustomed to scoring often and scoring big, of their six league defeats this campaign, four have occurred without them finding the net.
Therein lies Brann’s faint hopes of taking any points from this contest; if Molde concede first, they tend to go on to lose. Unfortunately, Brann’s big issue is simply scoring – never mind scoring first. Top-scorer Aune Heggebø is only twenty years old and this is his first season in Norway’s top flight. Relying on such an inexperienced striker has done the side from Bergen no favours, so expect them to put up little resistance to a Molde side that, on paper at least, are patently too powerful.

Prediction: Molde Half-time/Full-time
