Rodrygo featured in a strike partnership alongside Vinicius Jr in the previous game against Atletico Madrid, as Kylian Mbappe was ruled out with a thigh injury. It was a similar setup as last season.

He played 89 minutes operating centrally, managing two shots in total against a resolute Atletico rearguard. Rodrygo had an average of 3.26 shots per 90 in the Champions League last season, with at least two shots in 12 out of 13 games. The only game he failed, was the final against Dortmund.

Despite seeing a reduced role this season following the arrival of Mbappe, Rodrygo is still averaging 2.16 shots per 90, with at least two shots in each of his last five starts.

Jude Bellingham was heavily involved in the previous game for Real Madrid, often dropping deeper into midfield to see more of the ball. This season, Bellingham has drawn at least two fouls in four out of six games, including in the game against Stuttgart in the Champions League.

He should find duels against the Lille captain, Benjamin Andre, who is averaging 1.8 fouls per game this season in a defensive midfield role. Bellingham is always a target to draw infringements, as he tends to invite physical contact, and buy free-kicks at times. Last season, Bellingham was fouled 2.49 times per 90 in all competitions. He drew at least two fouls in six out of eleven Champions League games.

Carvajal has made a foul in five out of eight games this season for Real Madrid in all competitions, starting as the right back. However, he tends to see an uptick in fouls in bigger games, particularly in the Champions League.

Last season, only Camavinga made more fouls in the European competition. Carvajal had an average of 1.8 fouls per 90, with at least one foul in nine out of eleven matches. When filtering that list further, the Spaniard made three fouls against Napoli, one foul against Braga and four fouls against Leipzig in the group stages. He averaged 2.4 fouls per 90 in the Champions League when playing away last season.

Real Madrid have been shown at least two cards in six out of ten games this season, including four cards last time out in the Champions League. However, Lille are a solid side to target opposition fouls, given that they have drawn an average of 13.55 fouls per game in all competitions this season.

Lille opponents have seen two or more cards in ten out of eleven games in all competitions. PSG notably saw exactly two cards when these sides faced off in Ligue 1. Maurizio Mariani will officiate this game – the Italian has shown an average of 4.48 yellow cards per game, and 0.29 red cards per game over the course of his career.

In his four Champions League games, he has shown a total of 19 yellows and one red card.

Vinicius Jr finds himself in solid form, after contributing an assist in the previous game against Atletico Madrid. He sent in the cross that found Eder Militao at the back post – who was able to rifle in the first goal of the game. The winger has now registered an assist in each of his last three appearances for Real Madrid. With Mbappe out, Vinicius is expected to once again be heavily involved in this forthcoming fixture.

Last season, Vinicius contributed to the most goal involvements for Los Blancos in the Champions League. He registered six goals and four assists in total – Bellingham was a close second with foul goals and five assists.

Real Madrid were less than convincing in their Champions League opener against Stuttgart, conceding 17 shots in total. The Germans generated six corners and had seven shots on target. They now face a tough trip to France to face Lille, who were comfortably beaten in their opening game, so will be desperate to register their first points in the Champions League in front of a home crowd.

Real Madrid have conceded an average of 5.25 corners when playing away in La Liga this campaign. In their four games on the road, only Las Palmas have failed to hit the five corner mark. Lille are expected to line up with wingbacks here, which naturally should see them progress through wide areas as opposed to centrally, which is ideal for accumulating corners.

Edon Zhegrova is expected to feature on the right-wing in this game. The Kosovan international has a tendency to cut onto his stronger left foot, and shoot from distance. He currently has the highest shots per game average of any Lille player this season, with 2.44. Given how Madrid struggled against Stuttgart, backing Lille shots seems a sensible selection.

Zhegrova has already scored six goals this season in all competitions this season, and had eight shots in his last two games. He recently netted a brace against Strasbourg, so should come into this clash full of confidence. Last season, Zhegrova managed 3.21 shots per 90, with 1.14 on target.

Militao has committed a foul in eight of his ten appearances across all competitions, averaging 1.5 fouls per game, with only Vinicius Jr registering more fouls for Real Madrid.

In his centre back partnership with Rudiger, the German often plays the role of sweeper, allowing Militao to be more aggressive, engaging in direct duels with opposition forwards. That was evidenced in the previous game against Atletico Madrid, as Militao made two fouls. Rudiger, for comparison, has made just two fouls in his nine starts this season.

He is set to find duels against Jonathan David, who has drawn an average of 1.57 fouls per 90 this season – that is set to be a tough matchup for Militao.
