Everton v Tottenham
📅
Kick Off: Sunday 19th January at 14:00
🏆
Competition: Premier League
Everton host Tottenham at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon. Returning manager David Moyes was unable to get off to a winning start as the Toffees lost 1-0 to Aston Villa in midweek, and he has already admitted it will be tough to get more goals out of an Everton side that have scored fewer goals than every Premier League side bar 20th-placed Southampton.
Spurs, meanwhile, are likely to be all in on the cup competitions this season, languishing in 14th place, just 8 points clear of the drop zone with over half of the season played. Ange Postecoglou’s side have won just 1 of their last 9 league games, a 5-0 win over Southampton back in December.
⭐ Everton v Tottenham Best Bet
This is a huge price on James Maddison that holds fantastic value. He averages 1.60 shots per game with 21 of his 43 attempts on target this season in all competitions. That is nearly a 50% accuracy ratio. He fired in 3 shots on target v Tamworth in the FA Cup and will be on the most dangerous free kicks.
Maddison is also a foul magnet and draws 2.10 per game which is the most of any Spurs player. He’s up against an Everton midfield including the likes of Orel Mangala, Idrissa Gueye and if he drifts out wide Ashley Young. All of those players average close to 1.50 fouls per 90 minutes.
🟢 Everton v Tottenham #WhatOddsPaddy Tip
This is a massive price for an outcome which is perfectly feasible. Everton had exactly 4 corners in each half in David Moyes’ first match back in charge v Villa and under him there is a chance they could be more adventurous, thus giving more corner opportunities.
Spurs fixtures average the most corners per game of any team in the EPL (13) and they average over 7 corners themselves in each contest. In a match where the corners should flow it is not out of the question that both teams contribute significantly in each half.
We obviously need at least 16 corners for this bet to cash and for there to be an even split. But at 80/1 this is definitely worth a nibble and should be half the odds or even less.

🔍 Everton v Tottenham Players to Watch
🔵 Ashley Young
Veteran defender Ashley Young is usually a reliable player to produce at least 1 or even multiple fouls. He averages 1.40 fouls per 90 minutes and is canny enough to know when to give away a cheap tactical free kick. He also knows when he needs to be cynical and ‘take one for the team’ so Young is also a major card candidate.
He is going to be up against Son Heung-min who draws 1.20 fouls per 90 and an athletic Djed Spence who has the pace to cause him problems. Young looks a huge price to commit multiple fouls in the game considering the difficult matchup he has.
🔵 Jarrad Branthwaite
New Everton manager David Moyes knows the strength of this team and one of them is their ability from set pieces. This was something highlighted in the previous regime and should continue. Jarrad Branthwaite is a massive figure to deal with at 1.95m tall and can be a handful for opponents to mark.
He is a huge 2.0 just to have one shot or more here and that is well within his reach, even if it’s a badly placed header. He’s had a shot in 3 of his last 4 Premier League matches and with Spurs notorious for defending set pieces badly, he may well get at least one opportunity here to add to that tally.
⚪ Son Heung-min
This could be a good time for a strike with Son because there are signs of an upturn in form. He came off the bench in the FA Cup to supply his first assist since mid-December and then scored in the 2-1 North London derby defeat in midweek v Arsenal.
He endured a barren run of form at the back end of 2024 but he can become a confident player very quickly and he is still undoubtedly Spurs’ biggest attacking threat. He is facing a struggling Everton team and is also on penalty-taking duty.
Son has 6 goals and 6 assists in the Premier League this season; last year those numbers were 17 and 10 respectively.

💻 Everton v Tottenham Form and Tactics
Everton have only won 1 of their last 12 Premier League games and scored just 1 goal in their last 6 matches. New manager David Moyes started life back with a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa. He used a 4-2-3-1 system and the Toffees had 50% of the ball.
Tottenham are in very poor form in the league. They have lost 6 of their last 8 matches and are down as low as 14th in the table. Spurs should line up in a 4-3-3 system and we know the type of football they will be trying to play. Ange Postecoglou is known for his high press and high-tempo approach. Spurs average 57.3% possession in the Premier League this season which is the 4th-most in the Premier League.
