⚔️ Gameweek 26 Review – 95 Points (62 Average)
Almost a 100+ week for the third week running! 2 returns from 3 defenders and a goalkeeper is good, however, it could have been even more had Veltman not pulled out due to injury, but I’ll take it. Collins (6 pts) with a clean sheet and Milenkovic (5 pts) conceding 4, but scoring helped me keep the points high. Friday night football with Mbeumo (14 pts) set me up well on my way and Salah (14 pts) equalled him to reward my captaincy, but the remainder of my midfield blanked.
My forward line repaid my faith with Isak (13 pts) and Wissa (8 pts) scoring 3 goals and 5 BPS. The last week of Assistant Manager was a good outcome with Liverpool beating Man City and Slot adding 10 points to the overall score. All in all, we are moving in the right direction and in the groove.

✅ The Best 3 Transfers IN for Gameweek 27
🏴 Jarrod Bowen – West Ham (£7.3m, 3.7%)
The main reason for the transfer, he plays Leicester. That’s slightly unfair, Bowen is and has always been for seasons now a great pick in FPL. Down as a midfielder by name only, realistically he is a forward and has the stats to back it up. 7 goals (including 2 in his last 3 games), 6 assists and 0.51 xGI per 90 minutes for a poor West Ham side this season, a side that is now improving.
Beating Arsenal this week is possibly the boost they require in order to put together a run of results and break free from the bottom group. Amassing an impressive 0.92 xG, 2 shots in the box and a 50% conversation rate against a solid Arsenal defence is inviting for the upcoming fixture against Leicester and I will own him, even if it requires a hit. Though unlikely to captain him, genuinely I think he could score 2 or 3 against a side that is already doomed to the Championship.
🏴 Cole Palmer – Chelsea (£11.1m, 60.5%)
Four blanks in 5 GWs. Palmer’s points have definitely slowed down, but I predict a resurgence. Chelsea and therefore Palmer have lost form since Christmas, but they have a late present in terms of their next two fixtures, Southampton, and Leicester both at home. Even though Palmer blanked again this GW, he got in plenty of promising positions and if not for a great one-on-one save, he would have had a double-digit haul, so the signs are still good.
Palmer is still highly owned so if he does haul and you don’t own him it will significantly sting. Some managers took him out and it paid off, but I think now is the time to return him. Remember, now the later rounds of European competitions are starting to take effect and stretch many clubs’ squads, Palmer will be fresher than a mountain daisy due to not being included in Chelsea’s European adventures.
This means that even in the tougher games you would think a well-rested Cole Palmer will offer more chance of points. We have seen he can ‘mega’ haul, point in note, scoring 4 goals and 25 FPL points in GW6 against Brighton. I am glad he’s in my side and he’s going nowhere.
🇧🇷 Matheus Cunha – Wolves (6.9m – 12.4%)
I suggested last GW to transfer in & after another stellar performance he remains. 3 goals and 25 points (8.3 pts per game) in his last 3 matches and that’s only scoring one goal in each game, imagine if he gets a brace or even hat-trick. Wolves fans won’t thank me for this but every game he plays is another step towards joining a top-6 side in the summer, even the most avid fan would agree I think.
After scoring against Liverpool, Aston Villa and Bournemouth, owners will be licking their lips with a fantastic fixture run for the next 8, playing Everton, Southampton, West Ham, Ipswich, Man United and Leicester. In this period he will continue to score highly and raise significantly in price. If you are tight for money and can only just afford it, bring him in ASAP.
❌ The Best 3 Transfers OUT for Gameweek 27
🇳🇱 Cody Gakpo – Liverpool (£7.6m, 12.5%)
Rotation is a theme this GW it seems, and Arne Slot loves to rotate between Gakpo, Diaz and Jota (when fit). Having only just returned from injury and playing the last 11 mins of the game against Man City, I envisage he will start on the bench and integrate back into the squad carefully, Slot won’t rush him back with the title in sight.
That being said, Gakpo has often come on to score many points from the bench, but one of the cardinal FPL sins is to choose a player who is a rotation risk. Ultimately less time on the pitch is less time to affect the game and haul.
Next up is a tough game v Newcastle, an easier affair v Southampton, blank GW29, then Everton and Fulham; so there is a case to keep if you own. Ultimately though as Gakpo takes up a valuable forward space, I think the best option for now is to replace him.
🇧🇫 Dango Ouattara – Bournemouth (£4.6m, 8.8%)
FPL is so reactive. One GW often is the complete 180 of the next, and this is the situation here. Many managers (including myself) transferred in Dango, due to his price, current positioning, and form, but this has all been thrown into jeopardy with the early return of the £37m striker, Evanilson. He fractured a metatarsal in his foot and only underwent surgery on Jan 7th but was already back on the bench for this week v Wolves.
As Dango was being deployed as a striker due to necessity, this screams of reduced minutes, most likely in his normal wing-back role therefore attacking significantly less. We all knew he was a short-term option, just not this short and though Evanilson didn’t start or even play, it won’t be long before he does. He may continue to pick up small scores here or there, but you need players who have haul potential and secure minutes.
Now looking back at his GW23 haul vs Nottingham Forest (21 pts) I think this was a huge variation, just ‘one of those games’ and I am now confident in saying that this won’t happen again this season. Knit all this information together and react accordingly, if you have a few FT’s then take him out immediately, if not, bench him until you can move on.
🇳🇴 Erling Haaland – Man City (£5.5m, 15.4%)
It never rains but it pours at the Etihad. Poor form, a humbling by Real Madrid and Liverpool (back-to-back), and now your top striker is injured. The conversation in the FPL community about transferring Haaland back in was just beginning to take shape, mainly because surprisingly at only 27% he was a differential worth a punt.
Currently we don’t know the extent of his injury but if I’m paying £14.7m for any player in my side, they must perform every single GW. With 3 goals and 2 assists in his last 3 games, he began to pick up form but if he wants to catch Mo Salah for the golden boot, he will have to bide his time for now and that’s exactly how to approach this issue.
If you own him, wait as close to the deadline as you can and if he is a doubt then make the simple transfer to Isak, Cunha or Wissa. In the words of Erling Haaland, ‘stay humble’ and wait but keep an eye out for the option in the not-too-distant future.
Top Tip – Set your bus team. After the end of each GW ensure you set up you’re team up in case you forgot, or the name suggests, if you were struck by a bus. Having played fantasy football for over 20 years I have fallen foul of this and can tell you it’s genuinely one of the most frustrating things in the world; don’t let it be you! (P.s if you were wondering, yes, FPL is often that important lol)
🦸 Gameweek 27 Captaincy Selections
🇪🇬 Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (£13.7m, 72%)
Unstoppable! With Arsenal slipping further behind in the title race, Salah took full advantage, scoring, assisting, and hauling with 14 points. Next up is seemingly a tougher Newcastle fixture right? Well, I thought so too before I checked the stats. Just look at this, the last time Salah blanked v Newcastle at home was April 2016, and away it was April 2022.
Much like this GW where we thought there was scope for a differential captaincy with the game being at Anfield, you can consider my captaincy already locked.
Alternative Captain Options
It’ll take a strong heart and a huge sofa to hide behind, but if you want to go different there are options. I do think Bowen (v Leicester) has the potential to equal Salah and Palmer (v Southampton) isn’t a bad call either. Super different is Cunha (v Fulham) or Fernandes (v Ipswich).
Top three for me this GW: Salah – Bowen – Palmer.
👁️ FPL Veteran’s Vision and Verdict
Less is truly more sometimes. Rolling last GW has resulted in me having 2 FT’s and £2.8 in the bank, essentially giving me the ability to do virtually any move(s)… GW 27 is my oyster. Highly likely Jorgensen (Chelsea) will come in for Fabianski, for the next two games, by then hopefully, Arsenal have returned to usual at the back.
Fairly set on Vardy to Cunha up top, a popular yet straightforward decision. A few tough late 50/50 calls are required this week with Konsa/Dango and Veltman(if fit)/Huijsen. With one eye on blank GW 29, I may take a hit this week to let Luiz Diaz go for a risky yet rewarding pick. Captaincy goes to guess who?
