Monaco v Troyes
🏟
Sunday 10th April – 2:00PM KO
Monaco are heavily fancied to overcome Troyes at home, and while they should pick up maximum points in the game, they are likely to face a battle.
Under Philippe Clement, they have been poor when it comes to breaking down deep-lying opponents in Ligue 1. PSG may have been swept aside 3-0 in their previous home match, but Troyes are likely to come with the idea of defending and hoping for the best. Such tactics have allowed Reims and Lorient to leave Stade Louis II with something in the last couple of months.
Indeed, Monaco’s matches since the beginning of February have almost exclusively been low-scoring affairs. Eight of their last 11 in all competitions have seen two goals or fewer, meaning their past couple of matches, in which three goals have been scored, have been the anomalies.
Troyes, meanwhile, are a club that has built their survival challenge around a solid defence. They are on a five-match undefeated run, which has been underpinned by defensive solidarity. During this period, they have conceded only two goals, including an away win against Bordeaux and a point against Saint-Etienne.
When they have lost under new boss Bruno Irles, they have tended to blow up completely, but there is a strong trend under the boss appointed at Christmas for them to make it tight and competitive against any opponent. Like their hosts, eight of their last 11 have finished with under three goals.
Odds of evens, then, seem a generous price.

Strasbourg v Lyon
🏟
Sunday 10th April – 6:00PM KO
Strasbourg have climbed to fourth in Ligue 1 on the merit of their impressive achievements this season. Julien Stephan’s side made a sluggish start to the campaign and were mid-table at the end of October. Since then, they have accelerated impressively, losing only two matches and climbing into the thick of the European battle.
At home, they have been especially good. Since losing 2-1 to Lille in September, they have suffered only one loss at Stade de la Meinau and are presently on a five-match undefeated run at the venue which encompasses four victories. Impressively, these games have all been played against clubs in the top half of the Ligue 1 standings.
With no visiting supporters allowed for this encounter, the Meinau is sure to be a cauldron and will absolutely help the home side. It is one of the best atmospheres in France even on far more modest occasions.
Lyon, meanwhile, are coming off the back of a tough European away trip to West Ham, where they drew 1-1 despite totally dominating the game against 10 men. They have also not travelled well this season, winning only four away games. With a defence that looks far from convincing, it would be a surprise if Strasbourg did not find the net at least once in this encounter, while OL’s attack has blown hot and cold all season. Lyon might have won the previous encounter between these sides in September 3-1, but the momentum of these two teams has shifted significantly since then

Marseille v Montpellier
🏟
Sunday 10th April – 8:00PM KO
When Marseille overcame Montpellier 3-2 on the opening day of the season, it was a match that promised much for the campaign ahead, so rich it was in entertainment. Such spectacles between these sides have been commonplace in recent meetings. Each of the last three times these clubs have met in league play, there have been at least four goals.
OM, meanwhile, have been involved in a string of high-scoring encounters. Their last three Ligue 1 games have produced a grand total of 14 goals, while their last three Conference League matches, including one on Thursday at home against PAOK, have all ended in their favour 2-1.
Having become rather dour to watch over the winter period, Marseille are winning back their reputation as entertainers and are doing so in style – they have won each of their last six matches.
Montpellier visit, meanwhile, at something of a low ebb. They have won only three of their last 12 games and were beaten at home 2-1 by Brest last weekend. During that match, they showed the type of defensive weaknesses that a side as buoyant as Marseille could readily exploit. Worse, they have lost defensive midfielder Joris Chotard to injury and do not have an experienced like-for-like replacement for him.
La Paillade’s strength in this encounter is likely to be going forward, especially with Stephy Mavididi getting back to full strength after injury, and that promises plenty of excitement for this match.
