Eupen v KV Kortrijk
🏟
Saturday 3rd September – 5:15PM KO
After a disappointing end last season (6 out of 42) and a difficult start to the season, KV Kortrijk have decided to end their collaboration with coach Belhocine. This is the first managerial dismissal of the season in the Jupiler Pro League.
New coach Custovic knows the club well because he was already assistant to Yves Vanderhaeghe in 2014. He was also allowed to take over briefly when Vanderhaeghe was fired. What characterises Custovic as a coach is his preferred 4-4-2 formation with a lot of crosses from the wings and depth for the strikers. He himself was a striker during his playing career. So this will be a change from Belhocine’s approach. We can expect more goals from Kortrijk again. In the striker’s department, they have recruited Didier Lamkel Ze, the Mario Balotelli of the Jupiler Pro League.
When he’s mentally focused, he’s one of the best players in the league, but he regularly gets short circuits in the head. We still expect him to do his best in the beginning though. That goes for the whole squad, who will want to prove themselves to the new coach. We’ll also be looking out for striker Avenatti, who can score some important goals once he’s got confidence.
Eupen have not started the season much better, barely two points above Kortrijk with 6 points. They have played Club Brugge, Genk and Antwerp, the top 3 in the league. Last week they won at Westerlo with 0-1 and that without their top marksman Prevljak. He will also miss this match with a muscle injury.
Eupen is a team that, despite their low ranking, is based on creative plays. Kortrijk will not approach this match ultra-defensively either, so both teams could well score in this match.

Anderlecht v OH Leuven
🏟
Sunday 4th September – 12:30PM KO
On transfer deadline day Anderlecht pulled off several coups that should strike fear into the other Belgian top clubs. They picked up 129-times international Jan Vertonghen, who disappeared from the starting line-up at Benfica at the beginning of the season.
In midfield, they reinforced themselves with Amadou Diawara, whose Serie A experience (As Roma, Napoli) will be useful in the young squad. Trainer Mazzu was already impressed by the physical qualities of the international from Guinea, who cost barely 2 million.
Anderlecht will have the most worries up front this season. Under new coach Mazzu, Anderlecht play with a more defensive mindset, which results in less chances to score goals. Transfer target Zirkzee went to Bologna, Esposito hasn’t convinced yet and 16-year old Stroeykens is too young to carry the attack alone.
OHL is a team that traditionally plays neat football, even against the top clubs. They have continuity with coach Marc Brys, but never managed to make the top play-offs. This is due to their weak record against the top clubs. Despite their decent football, they come up with few points.
We expect OHL to take advantage of Anderlecht’s lesser form (3 defeats in a row) and busy schedule (3 matches in one week). On the other hand, we see Anderlecht being dangerous despite leaving the ball possession to Leuven.
