Andy's Wednesday Accumulator @ 4.31

As previously mentioned, Juventus are putting up some really dominant numbers. The hosts have now scored 2+ goals in eight of their last nine competitive wins. They are showing an ability to ruthlessly kill off games in the second half when the opponents are chasing the game.

Juventus matches in the Champions League are averaging 3.67 goals a game, with Juve scoring 12 goals across their six games.

Benfica are struggling across this Champions League campaign, they’re currently sitting one place below qualification for the knockout phases, so they need to pick up wins with a matter of urgency.

With a game against Real Madrid on the final day of the group phases, Benfica’s game against Juve is possibly their best chance of getting a win. Taking all of this into account, there’s a good likelihood the game against Juve could be an open encounter with plenty of goals and opportunities. The counter-attack might be a very productive avenue for Juve if Benfica are chasing the game.

The most recent meeting between these sides took place back in September and saw BTTS as Southampton came away 2-1 winners over Sheffield United. The Saints were pretty dominant in that clash, coming away with an xG of 2.05 from 12 shots, five of which managed to find the target.

Sheffield United have seen BTTS in four of their last five matches across all competitions, except their 1-0 defeat against Charlton last time out - a game where they were reduced to nine men by half time. Sheffield United’s recent games have included seven and eight-goal thrillers against the likes of Wrexham and Mansfield, showing a tendency for Chris Wilder’s side to be involved in high-scoring games at the moment.

Sheffield United have conceded 26 goals across their 14 away matches in the Championship this term - only Southampton (27) have conceded more goals away from home than Sheffield United this term. Southampton have seen 31 goals across their 13 home games this season (2.38 per game) and should be able to take advantage of Sheffield United’s defensive issues on the road this season.

I am very aware of Watford’s poor results in the last two matches, but, overall, I have a degree of faith in their quality, and I rate them as a much better team than Pompey right now.

Pompey are away here as well, and though they won their last away game, that was against Sheffield Wednesday, and, at the moment, they rate as a mid-table League One team at best. Outside of that match, Portsmouth have only won one away game in 11, scoring only seven times in those matches too.

Whilst Watford were really disappointing at home to Millwall last time out, I am very much aware that Alex Neil's Millwall can do that to teams at times. There should be a reaction to that here, and also John Mousinho's Portsmouth haven't been quite as resilient and capable on their travels, as mentioned above.

Watford still have a +0.59 xG differential per match when they play at home; in other words, they have created over half a goal's worth more than their opponents at Vicarage Road. On the other hand, Pompey come into this with a -0.78 xG differential across the season, so there is a substantial gap in performance to overcome here for the South Coast club.

Bayern Munich are posting some absolute crazy numbers this season, they’ve now scored 71 goals in eighteen Bundesliga games, an average of 3.94 goals a game. Accounting for the goals which the opposition have scored, Bayern’s Bundesliga games are averaging 4.72 goals a game.

The Bayern averages reach even higher in home matches, they score a whopping average of 4.33 goals at the Allianz Arena. It ultimately looks a scary prospect for Union St Gilloise, Bayern’s Champions League home games have finished in a 3-1 against Chelsea, a 4-0 win against Club Brugge, and a 3-1 win against Sporting Lisbon.

There’s not a huge amount to suggest Union will be competitive here, they can play quite expansively at times, this will leave plenty of spaces for Bayern in the attacking third. Union have already conceded 15 goals across their six Champions League matches, so it could be a very sobering night for them.

Marseille v Liverpool Bet Builder @ 3.64

Marseille had no such issues with finding the back of the net at the weekend, as they secured a 5-2 win against Angers. They racked up 23 shots and seven big chances in that match, amounting to 2.84 xG.

Les Phoceens had five different players on the scoresheet at the weekend, highlighting the quality they possess in the final third. Prior to that, they secured progression in the Coupe de France with a 9-0 win. Although that was against sixth-tier Bayeux FC, it just goes to show how strong Marseille are going forward, and they should be full of confidence.

Liverpool haven’t been so watertight at the back this season, but they have plenty of firepower going forward, and didn’t struggle to create chances against Burnley at the weekend. They managed 32 shots worth 3.18 xG, forcing Martin Dubravka into eight saves.

Scott Parker deployed a low block in that game, allowing Liverpool to dominate possession and play most of the game in their attacking third.

Marseille are likely to be a lot more attack-minded in their approach and make things difficult for the Reds. Les Phoceens are a team that like to press high and be front-footed, particularly on home turf, which Newcastle discovered when they played at the Velodrome Stadium back in November.

Marseille won that game 2-1, receiving five yellow cards in the process. They have opted for an aggressive defensive regime this season, which is reflected in their card counts - Marseille are averaging 2.8 cards per game in the Champions League this season, and have been booked twice in five of their six matches in total.

Similarly, Liverpool are drawing 2.67 yellows per game in Europe, with this selection also landing in five of their six games.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has plenty of experience playing against Liverpool and will be a key player for Marseille in midfield. The former Spurs man has been amongst the fouls this season, averaging 1.27 infringements per 90, hitting this mark in each of his last eight matches across all competitions.

In that streak, he landed this bet in the Champions League against both Newcastle and RUSG, while he has also seen an uptick in infringements when playing against the top sides.

Hojbjerg recently committed three fouls and was booked against PSG when the two met in the French Supercup final. He was also carded against the Parisians when they faced off in the league, while he also committed one foul at the Bernabeu when Real Madrid hosted Marseille back in round one. Once again, the 30-year-old should have plenty of defensive work to get through here against Liverpool.

Dominik Szobozlai had an afternoon to forget on Saturday, as he wasted his chance to score from the penalty spot, striking the crossbar. Usually so reliable from the spot, the Hungarian missed the opportunity to score his seventh goal of the season, which eventually proved costly.

Szoboszlai looked eager to atone for his mistakes throughout that game, as he registered a total of six shots, with one hitting the target. Still, the 25-year-old has been one of Liverpool’s best performers this season, and is averaging 2.22 shots per 90 across all competitions. Considering he has featured at fullback for a fair few games as well, that figure becomes even more impressive.

He has saved his best performances for the Champions League this season, scoring in three of Liverpool’s six games, landing this bet against the likes of Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
