Kilmarnock host Celtic in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday to replicate their stunning 1-0 home victory over Brendan Rodgers’s men in the League Cup in August.
It promises to be a major challenge for the Rugby Park side, who suffered just their second home defeat of the campaign last weekend against Hearts. They have since recovered to beat out-of-form Aberdeen, but their visitors from Parkhead offer a far sterner challenge than either of their previous opponents.
Celtic roll into Ayrshire after winning 13 of their 16 league games to date, including a crushing 4-1 win over Hibs on Wednesday. Rodgers’ side have been in especially impressive form in recent weeks, scoring 17 goals in their last five Premiership matches. All the while, they remain undefeated in the league.
The League Cup loss against Kilmarnock aside, they dominate the rivalry between the two teams, sealing a 3-1 success over Derek McInnes’ men in early October.
Celtic have been especially impressive away from home this season, with seven wins from their eight matches. They were frustrated to a scoreless draw against Hibs on October 28, but otherwise, they have been flawless on their travels.

🏆 Match stats: Celtic to be too strong
Kilmarnock might only have lost twice at home this season, but the chances are Celtic will be too good for them in this game.
They caught the Hoops on the hop when they met in August, with Rodgers still trying to bed in his team, and although the Glasgow side are still not playing their most fluent football, there is ample evidence to suggest that they should win this game with some to spare.
The hosts have specialised in keeping games tight in recent weeks, with each of their last five matches producing a total of just five goals. Battling an extensive midfield injury list, they will do well to subdue their guests, who have netted at least three times in four of their last five games.
Celtic are averaging 2.62 goals per match this season against a Kilmarnock team that scores on average just once per game. On top of this, the comfort of the Parkhead club has when travelling is underscored by seven victories from eight away league matches.
These are familiar foes, meanwhile, with Celtic winning the last six league games by at least two goals. This run dates back to December 2020.
Predictions:
🏆 Celtic to win @ 1.29
🏆 Celtic (-1 handicap) @ 2.10
🎯 Shooting stats: Scales tipping in favour
When it comes to looking at value in Celtic’s shooting, Liam Scales is unlikely to be a player who is immediately considered a worthy bet, yet the centre-back has been very active offensively in recent weeks for Rodgers’ side.
In Celtic’s last five Premiership matches, he has mustered at least one shot in four of the games. On top of this, he has managed at least two shots in each of the last two away matches and even reached five in the recent win over Ross County (who played much of the game with 10 men).
Having been little more than a fringe player at the start of the season, he has featured in every single minute of action since the scoreless draw against St Johnstone on August 26, suggesting that he is now an automatic pick. Cameron Carter-Vickers is doubtful, so this is particularly the case before this game.
With Kyogo Furuhashi and Oh Hyeongyu set to battle for minutes in the centre-forward role, with no guarantee which player starts, Scales offers an interesting left-field option to give a Celtic bet builder a real kick.
Interestingly, it’s worth noting for your bet builder that every Celtic outfield player who started against Hibs in midweek had at least one shot.
Predictions:
🚀 Liam Scales to have 1+ shots @ 1.53
🚀 Liam Scales to have 2+ shots @ 3.75
