Hearts v Rangers Match Preview

Hearts head into this Scottish Premiership fixture as surprise league leaders, protecting an impressive home record that has brought 12 wins from 16 matches at Tynecastle. Derek McInnes' side have lost just twice at home over 90 minutes since Rangers beat them 3-1 in February 2025, and their defensive solidity has been the foundation of their title challenge. With 29 goals conceded, they have the best defensive record in Scotland this season and are the only side to have scored more than twice as many goals as they have let in.

Recent victories over Motherwell and Hibernian both came late, following a draw at bottom side Livingston, highlighting a mental resilience rather than dominant performances. Red cards have been a recurring theme for Hearts this season, appearing in 3 of their last 4 matches.

McInnes faces a significant injury crisis heading into this game. Cammy Devlin is not expected to be fit in time, while Calem Nieuwenhof, Tomas Magnusson and Oisin McEntee are all ruled out. Record signing Ageu has barely featured this season. Harry Milne is doubtful at left back, and there are concerns over Christian Borchgrevink on the right. Marc Leonard does return from suspension, offering some relief in midfield.

Rangers arrive in difficult form, their 4-game winning run ended by a 3-2 home defeat to Motherwell last weekend. The week prior, they had to come from 2-0 down to beat Falkirk 6-3. That win over Falkirk is 1 of just 2 victories against top 6 opposition in their last 7 matches. Defensive vulnerability has become a concern, with Rangers conceding 2 or more goals in 6 of their last 8 league games. Tuur Rommens trained late in the week and is expected to be fit, with Ryan Naderi also potentially available — a development that could see Wilhelm Rohl switch to a 4-4-2.

How To Get Your Free Bets on Hearts v Rangers

This expert bet builder is the perfect qualifying bet - place it to unlock your free bets, win or lose.

Each selection has been taken from our Hearts v Rangers Bet Builder, which you can find live on our Predictions Page.

  • Hearts Double Chance @ 1.53

Hearts have won 13 and drawn 4 of their 17 home league matches this season, conceding just 10 goals at Tynecastle.

Rangers have won only 8 of 16 away league matches and just 2 of their last 6 games against top-six Premiership rivals.

Despite Rangers' 4-2 win in the last meeting, Hearts had won the two fixtures between the sides prior to that this season.

  • Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.72

Rangers' last 8 league matches have produced 36 goals at an average of 4.5 per game, with only one of those fixtures finishing under 2.5 goals.

Hearts have scored exactly two goals in each of the three previous meetings between the sides this season, and each of their last three league outings have produced at least three goals.

Rangers are far more comfortable on the front foot and have already shown they struggle to keep Hearts out across this season's fixtures.

  • Over 2.5 Cards @ 1.36

Each of the three previous meetings between these sides this season has produced at least three cards, with six shown in the most recent clash at Ibrox.

Hearts average 2.03 cards per game this season, and Rangers average exactly 2.0, combining for a high base rate before factoring in the occasion.

Referee John Beaton averages 4.96 cards per match this season and has shown at least three cards in seven of his eight league games involving either side.

  • Youssef Chermiti to have 1+ Shots on Target @ 1.40

Chermiti leads all Rangers players for shots on target in the league and averages 1.73 per 90 — the best figure in the entire Premiership by some distance.

He has registered three shots on target in each of his last three appearances, with at least two on target in six of his last nine outings.

The 21-year-old has 12 league goals this season, including three against Hearts in the last meeting between the sides.

Combine the above picks into a bet builder and back it with the required amount on any bookmaker included in this article to get your free bets.
