Tuesday’s Champions League Accumulator Tips
Inter professionally navigated the first leg of their Champions League tie against Feyenoord, coming away 2-0 winners from the Netherlands which has set them up well to finish the job in Milan.
Inter could have been three goals to the good had they converted a second half penalty, which would have really ended any chance Feyenoord have of coming through this tie.
Inter will really fancy their chances of going deep in the Champions League, the blue side of Milan have recent experience in reaching the final against Man City a few seasons ago and the scars of that defeat are still fresh in the squad, which is one of the most experienced and organised in Europe.
They’ve won all four of their games at home in the Champions League this season, scoring nine goals and conceding none, emphasising the size of the task facing Robin van Persie’s side, who have hit some patchy form.
Feyenoord have only managed to win one of their last five games across all competitions, a mid season change of manager is always difficult for a squad to adapt to and this seems to be the case here. They’ve done relatively well on the road in the Champions League so far but the fact they’ve conceded 12 goals across their five away assignments should be something that Inter can take advantage of.
PSG racked up 14 corners in the first leg meeting between the sides, Luis Enrique’s side were effective in sustaining attacking pressure in Liverpool’s half, with the Reds not having many opportunities to relieve this pressure.
They are unlikely to have that many corners again here but their record across the Champions League as a whole is quite promising. PSG have won 78 corners across their 11 games in the Champions League this season (7.09 per game).
Liverpool have been pretty dominant in the Champions League this season but not without withstanding serious pressure from the opposition. They’ve conceded five or more corners in five of their nine assignments in the Champions League this season.
Liverpool should look to employ a similar approach to their first leg performance with the Reds aware that there is only one goal in the tie and the momentum could swing if PSG find an early goal. This should result in periods of the game where PSG do manage to keep Liverpool in their own half and rack up a few corners as a result.
Bayern Munich have been shown two or more cards in six of their 11 Champions League games this season, including picking up two cautions in the first leg meeting between the sides.
The tie is pretty much decided with Bayern holding a 3-0 lead heading into the second leg, but Leverkusen could inject some energy and animosity into the affair with an early goal against their Bundesliga rivals.
Bayern have been shown two or more cards in three of the four meetings these sides have had this year, the exception coming in the very first encounter in September in which they still committed 11 fouls and picked up one caution.
There is a longstanding rivalry between these sides as a result of the back and forth battle for Bundesliga supremacy which often translates to a few scuffles on the pitch as it did in the first leg. Bayern can also be prone to complacency, as we saw in their round of 32 tie against Celtic.
Bayer Leverkusen tend to draw quite a few cards in the Champions League, they’ve drawn two or more cards from their opponents in six of their nine games in the competition, which would indicate that they can frustrate and antagonise their opponents, leading to cautions.
Bayern’s lead could be cut quickly if they aren’t professional in their approach which could quickly spiral and see the longstanding tension between these sides continue.
