🔎 Andy's Saturday's Best Bet Double
My best bet double involves a team to score and a strong home side who I fancy to go well in Scottish League One this season.
Motherwell sprung a major surprise last Saturday as they picked up a 1-1 draw against Rangers, yet they were good value for that result and will fancy their chances of going to St Mirren and scoring at least one goal.
Well appointed Jens Berthel Askou as their new manager in the summer with a remit of playing attacking football, and that was evident against the Gers as they generated an eye-catching 2.21 xGF. It continues a streak of the Fir Park side scoring in all five matches since the arrival of the new boss.
St Mirren have struggled to keep clean sheets, having only done so once in their last four matches. Stephen Robinson’s side earned plaudits for their defence against Celtic last time out in a 1-0 loss, yet they also rode their luck at times as their opponents hit the woodwork three times.
Although the head-to-head record shows Motherwell have scored four times in a row against St Mirren, more important than the history of this fixture is the way Askou is setting up his Motherwell side. Having watched the Well test Rangers last weekend, I fancy them to get on the scoresheet at least once in Paisley.
Inverness v Peterhead
Scottish Championship
15:00
Inverness Draw No Bet @ 1.29
I fancy Inverness to win League One, despite a five-point penalty, and I’ve got faith in them continuing their winning start to the season against Peterhead at home.
Caley started in strong style last weekend by brushing aside Kelty Hearts 3-0. They had strengthened with three signings on the eve of that encounter, yet none of those new additions were involved from the outset in Fife. In particular, the arrival of Alfie Bavidge is a real boon, with the on-loan Aberdeen forward having netted six in 10 during a similar spell last term.
Peterhead made an impressive start against East Fife, brushing their opponents away 4-1 at home. But the statistics make for more worrying reading than the final score – Peterhead scored with all four of their efforts on target and were actually outshot overall by their opponents.
Furthermore, the early pace-setters run into altogether more formidable foes when they make the trip west here. During the League Cup, they lost four from four, and a single win against an opponent likely to be one of the weakest in the division should not distract from the work that still needs to be done.
