Real Madrid v Arsenal
Kick Off: Wednesday 16th April at 20:00
What TV Channel: TNT Sports 1
Arsenal put in their best performance of the Emirates era in the first leg of this quarter-final tie, running out 3-0 winners in front of the North London crowd, giving them a real chance of making the semi-finals. Declan Rice was the standout from the first leg, scoring two incredible free kicks, with Arsenal’s makeshift striker in Mikel Merino, also pitching in to round off a resounding victory.
Real Madrid have come back from first-leg defeats before, notably against Chelsea and Manchester City in recent campaigns. However, they have never overturned a three-goal deficit in the Champions League, so Los Blancos will have to break new ground here if they are to qualify for the next stage of the competition.

This second leg should play out quite differently to the first leg, Arsenal have done most of the heavy lifting at the Emirates so don’t need to go hunting a goal or a result and can rely on their excellent defensive organisation skills, but not without inviting pressure on their goal.
Real Madrid only had three shots on target in the first leg which is a pretty pitiful return considering the attacking quality they had in the starting lineup. It was also well below their average of 6.5 shots on target per game in the Champions League this season, indicating that we should see an improved attacking performance from Los Blancos here.
Real Madrid have been totally dominant when it comes to shots on target at the Bernabeu in the Champions League this season, they’ve had at least six shots on target in each of their six games at home in the Champions League this season. They did struggle a little at the beginning of the campaign to limit shots on target at the Bernabeu, but have since improved to see their last three Champions League games at home see two, three and four shots on target against them.
The gamestate really suits this selection, Arsenal are excellent off the ball and will be more than content in sitting in their shape and inviting Madrid to break them down. Madrid have plenty of players in the squad that can take aim at David Raya and should improve on their lacklustre performance in the first leg to come out on top in both halves in relation to the shot on target count.

🔍 Real Madrid v Arsenal Players to Watch
⚪ Rodrygo
It’s easy to forget about Rodrygo with the talent that so often catches the headlines spread throughout the Real Madrid squad. He’s made a habit of showing up in the big moments for Madrid despite his tendency to dip under the radar, scoring in previous campaigns at crucial moments against Chelsea and Manchester City as well as scoring against Atletico Madrid at the Bernabeu in the round of 16.
Rodrygo has registered seven goal contributions across his 11 appearances in the Champions League this season and can tap into his habit of turning up when Los Blancos need him most here.
🔴 Jurrien Timber
Timber was crucial in the first leg in managing Vincius Jr who struggled to get any joy against the fullback. This pressure should be more intense in this second leg with Madrid needing at least three goals without reply to find a way back into the tie.
Timber has won seven fouls across his 10 appearances in the Champions League this season (1.06 per 90) and contested 15 duels in the first leg, winning more of these than any other player on the pitch (8).
Vinicius Jr has committed 16 fouls across his 11 appearances in the Champions League this season (1.42 per 90) which is a record that should spark another entertaining battle between these two.
