The Spanish Super Cup sees four teams heading to Saudi Arabia to battle it out for the trophy and the first two teams up are Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona, two teams in very different form.

Bilbao head to the Kingdom unbeaten in their last 15 games in all competitions whereas Barcelona have won just four of their last 10 and might just be suffering from an injury too many, not least Lamine Yamal.

Bilbao don’t necessarily have the best record against Barcelona but this is a Catalan side who aren’t firing on all cylinders so the outsiders can be taken to make the most of a fair opportunity to force extra time if not progress in 90 minutes.

This will be the fourth time that this competition will take place in Saudi Arabia and of the previous nine matches here, seven of them have seen both teams to score and there has been something of a showpiece occasion about them.

Usually when a competition goes elsewhere to showcase its credentials there is an onus on both teams to attack and previously we have had scores such as 4-1, 3-3, 3-1 and 2-2, so goals do come.

Both of these attacks are lively and have goals in them so expecting both teams to find the net here makes sense given the occasion.

As highlighted above, goals have tended to come quite regularly since this competition was given a profile boost by moving it to Saudi Arabia and with both teams fresh after the winter break it would be a surprise if we don’t see attacks on top here.

Barcelona warmed up for the tournament with a 4-0 win, albeit against lower league opposition, in the Copa Del Rey while Bilbao should be full of confidence after a run of 15 games unbeaten, which includes results against Real Madrid and Fenerbahce in that time.

Goals come regularly in this tournament as both teams generally go about taking risks to make the final rather than wait for the game to come to them. Expect a goal in both halves.

One player who could enjoy himself in this match is the Athletic Bilbao winger come forward Inaki Williams who has a favourable matchup against Alejandro Balde, who while not a weak link, is probably the weaker side of the defence.

Williams has three goals in his last four starts so after a bit of a quiet period after a thigh injury he now looks up to full speed and has the potential to be a real thorn in the side of Barcelona in this match. His pace and skill make him a danger to anyone and in a game where attack is the emphasis of the day the Ghana international feels a solid option to score in this one.
