🔴 The Catalans Showing No Signs of Slowing Down

A 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano was the only time Barcelona have dropped points this season, as they have once again been dominant under Hansi Flick. It did look like Real Oviedo were about to pull off the impossible on Thursday night, going in at half time 1-0 up against the champions, but Barcelona inevitably secured the comeback, with the game finishing 3-1.

However, the Catalans still have work to do - rivals Real Madrid boast a flawless league record so far, putting Barcelona two points adrift of top spot.

Hansi Flick’s men only have two days to recover and prepare for this match against Real Sociedad, but they were able to make some changes on Thursday night. Robert Lewandowski featured for just 25 minutes against Real Oviedo, still managing to get on the scoresheet, while Frenkie de Jong was only introduced at half time.

🔵 La Real Hoping to Recover

After six and a half years as Real Sociedad manager, Imanol Alguacil stepped down from his position at the end of last season after La Real finished 11th in the Spanish top-flight. That was his worst league performance since he took charge, and in his place Sergio Francisco took over, earning a promotion from the Real Sociedad B team.

However, the 46-year-old has so far been unsuccessful in his attempt to reverse La Real’s poor fortunes. They picked up just two points from their first five league games, failing to keep a clean sheet in any of those matches.

Francisco’s side did secure a much-needed victory against Mallorca last time out to relieve some pressure. It was a convincing win, too, as the hosts racked up 2.76 xG from 17 shots at the Reale Arena, conceding just seven shots, 0.76 xGA.
