Martinez has played a much more active role in Inter’s Champions League run this campaign when compared to last season, at least from a goalscoring point of view. Martinez is likely to want to test 21-year-old goalkeeper Jonas Urbig early on here, with the keeper not having much experience of the Champions League at this level. He’s standing in for Manuel Neuer who is still injured for Vincent Kompany’s side. This could prove crucial in deciding the outcome of the tie, as well as encouraging Martinez to try his luck whenever possible.

They’re far more balanced than Bayern and the comparison between these metrics reflect that, Bayern are a bit top heavy in terms of their squad make up which means that they can be quite effective in forward areas but susceptible at the back, leaving their only option to be outscoring the opposition, a tactic that is unlikely to be successful against such an organised Inter side.

Although Bayern may not be able to come through this tie as winners given Inter’s one goal advantage and superb record at home this season, Vincent Kompany’s side can pepper the Inter goal in search of a way back into the tie, which should see them come out on top in the shot on target count, as they did in the first leg.

This is likely to force Bayern wide, where they are strong with the likes of Leroy Sane and Michael Olise offering difficult 1v1 challenges for their opposite fullbacks, which is another avenue that could force Inter into picking up a few cautions.

Harry Kane missed a golden chance in the first leg which could have entirely changed the picture of this second leg. Kane had six shots in total, with two of these attempts finding the target, as well as striking the post early on, which would have given Bayern the lead in the game.

Kane has registered 12 goal contributions across his 10 appearances in the Champions League this season (10 goals, two assists). This is a superb record which builds on his output across the campaign as a whole, with Kane providing 44 goal contributions across his 40 appearances in all competitions.

Kane is on penalties for Bayern Munich and will certainly have the desire to put right those missed opportunities in the first leg to register a goal contribution here. Bayern are also chasing the tie, so they will need to turn to urgency at some point, which should see Vincent Kompany’s side do most of the heavy lifting when it comes to acting as an attacking force in this game.

Pavard tends to play on the right-hand side of a back three for Inter, which naturally sees him contest many 1v1 duels, especially when he has to come out into wide areas when the fullback has pushed up the pitch and been caught out on transition. Pavard should find himself in a few situations where he has to bring down a Bayern player which can see him catch the eye of the referee, as he has more times than any other player in the Inter squad in Serie A this season. He looks good value for a booking here.

Yann Sommer has been a huge part of Inter’s success both this campaign and over the last few seasons. The 36-year-old is an excellent shot stopper who has a wealth of experience at this level. He had to call on that experience to make six saves in the first leg in a man-of-the-match performance.

We can expect Sommer to be similarly challenged here with Bayern chasing the tie and averaging 7.8 shots on target per game in the Champions League. Bayern had seven shots on target in the first leg, which suggests that they’ll have no issue in living up to this average in this game with extra motivation to do so. Sommer could be a busy man on Wednesday night.

Inter are really strong at home, and this could be the stage of the competition where Bayern are finally caught out for their lacklustre backline which has been caught out on so many occasions in the Champions League this season.

Inter have won all five of their games at home in the Champions League this season by an aggregate scoreline of 11-2. Feyenoord are the only side to come to the San Siro and score a goal, which underlines the size of the task facing Bayern here, against a side that looks primed to go all the way in this competition.
