Newcastle v Arsenal

🗓️

Kick Off: Sunday 28th September at 16:30

Viktor Gyokeres to Commit More Fouls than Nick Woltemade

📈

Odds: 2.40

I’m really interested to see how the two new strikers get on in this game. It has been a very physical and demanding contest in recent seasons, so it’ll be intriguing to see how Gyokeres and Woltemade adapt to the demands of a game like this.

Gyokeres hasn’t been the best in these sorts of games so far. He looks comfortable in games against the lower sides in the Premier League, but hasn’t yet made his mark on a game like this for Arsenal. That being said, Gyokeres likes to be involved in the game, and I can see him picking a real battle with Fabian Schar and Dan Burn here, who will relish the challenge of being up against a physical striker like Gyokeres.

Gyokeres has committed four fouls across his five Premier League matches so far this season (0.90 per 90), with his most notable duel so far coming against Matthijs de Ligt on the opening weekend of the season - a game in which he committed three fouls. I can see a similar matchup against Schar and Burn here, who will get physical with Gyokeres.

I can’t quite see the same battle materialising at the other end of the pitch. Woltemade is a giant, but he isn’t overly physical against the opposition centre backs in the same way that Gyokeres is. Woltemade is also facing up against the best centre back partnership in the Premier League, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the German giant was kept a bit quiet here.

Anthony Gordon to Score More Goals than Martin Zubimendi

📈

Odds: 5.50

Gordon relishes these sorts of matches, and I think there’s a generous boost on his standard price to score here by pitting him up against Martin Zubimendi. At 5.50, compared to his anytime price of 5.0.

Zubimendi has scored a few goals for Arsenal, but this is not a regular aspect of his game. He only scored twice across 48 appearances for Real Sociedad last season and has scored just 10 goals across the last five seasons. It’s fair to say that he isn’t really a goal threat, so one goal from Gordon should be enough to see this selection come in.

Gordon hasn’t featured for Newcastle since his sending off against Liverpool a few weeks ago, and the Magpies have struggled in front of goal in his absence. They’ve only scored one goal in their three Premier League matches without Gordon. The suspended winger did manage to score in the Champions League against Barcelona, so he carries some momentum into this game.

Gordon scored home and away against Arsenal in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup semi-final tie against the Gunners last season. He also set up Alexander Isak’s winning goal in this fixture last season, so he has been a consistent thorn in the side of Arsenal in recent seasons.

You can combine my two selections into a 14/1 double, returning £150 from a £10 stake.
