Burnley v Liverpool

Ibrahima Konate to Commit More Fouls than Quilindschy Hartman

🗓️

Kick Off: Sunday 14th September at 14:00

📈

Odds: 2.10

Hartman has only committed one foul across his three Premier League appearances this season. He lines up as a left wing back for Burnley, with the Clarets usually opting for a back five in these games against much better opposition.

This doesn’t actually see Hartman contest many duels, as the majority of the time, he is tucked behind a winger who is effectively playing as a second fullback. Hartman committed just six fouls across his 12 appearances in the Eredivisie last season, so it’s not like he’s a serial fouler when he’s in a more attacking-minded system anyway.

Konate has been a bit shaky at the back for Liverpool in the early parts of this campaign. He committed two fouls in the Community Shield against Crystal Palace and has followed that performance with three fouls across his three Premier League appearances so far this season.

He’ll be in the spotlight to commit a few fouls here seeing as Liverpool will push their defensive line quite high which should see Konate contest quite a few duels against Lyle Foster who has won three fouls across his 250 minutes of Premier League football this season.

Man City v Man United

Bruno Fernandes to Win More Fouls than Erling Haaland

🗓️

Kick Off: Sunday 14th September at 16:30

📈

Odds: 2.00

Fernandes has been playing in a slightly deeper role for Manchester United this season, with the early signs suggesting that his foul won numbers will rise across the course of the campaign.

He’s already won seven fouls across his three Premier League appearances this season (2.33 per 90), which is an early increase on the 1.19 fouls won per 90 he averaged across his 36 Premier League appearances last season.

We’re pitting him up against Erling Haaland, who isn’t known for his foul rate and has only been fouled once across his three Premier League appearances this season. Haaland averaged just 0.43 fouls won per 90 across his 31 Premier League appearances last season; we can conclude that he doesn’t find himself on the end of challenges very often.

Fernandes will contest regular duels with Rodri, who is City’s most likely player to commit a foul. Haaland will have a scrap with De Ligt, but I expect that battle to be far less frequent than the duels Fernandes will contest in the middle of the park.
