Scotland take on Bolivia in New Jersey as part of their preparations for the World Cup kicking off next week.

Steve Clarke’s side will be aiming to get out of the group for the very first time at a World Cup, and have already started their tournament preparations pretty well with a 4-1 win over Curacao last time out.

4 Selections @ 4.20

Scott McTominay to have 1+ Shots on Target @ 1.40

Scott McTominay is obviously going to be a crucial player for Scotland at the World Cup, and should get a run out here having not featured against Curacao.

McTominay has scored 14 goals for Scotland across his 69 caps since 2018, netting two goals across his six appearances during qualifying with a shot on target average of 1.00 per 90.

McTominay also scored 10 goals in Serie A this season, marking the second consecutive campaign in which he’s reached double digits in Napoli. He averaged 1.10 shots on target per 90 across his 31 appearances in the Italian top-flight.

Ramiro Vaca to have 2+ Shots @ 1.53

Vaca usually operates as an attacking midfielder for Bolivia, and was a real shot threat in Bolivia’s games in the final stages of qualification against Suriname and Iraq.

Bolivia eventually lost in the final to Iraq, who secured the final spot at the World Cup, with Vaca managing 5+ shots in both of those matches.

He’s clearly not afraid to take aim, and won’t have much to lose here with this being a bit of a filler game for Bolivia. He scored five goals in the Copa Libertadores this season across four starts with a shot average of 4.51 per 90.

Over 2.5 Goals @ 1.70

Neither of the sides have been particularly strong when it comes to keeping clean sheets recently. Bolivia have failed to keep a clean sheet across their last eight matches, seeing 3+ goals in four of those games.

They saw 3+ goals in the semi-final and final of the inter-confederation qualifying process, which they lost to Iraq, who claimed the final spot on offer for the World Cup, so they’ll still be a competitive task for Scotland.

Steve Clarke’s side covered this line on their own last time out as they put four past Curacao; they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet across their last seven matches, seeing 3+ goals in five of those games.

Scotland to Win @ 1.40

Scotland should have the momentum and fitness edge here seeing as they’ve been prepping for the World Cup, while Bolivia have not played since that crushing defeat in the qualifying final against Iraq.

Steve Clarke may experiment a bit, or rotate the side to keep things fresh, but Scotland still have more than enough quality to beat out a Bolivia side whose only victory of late has come against a Suriname side who are ranked 125th in the world rankings.

As well as their recent win over Curacao, Scotland have beaten Denmark and Greece in recent months, so I think this will be another positive step in their warm-up for the World Cup.

📈 Bolivia v Scotland Form, Stats & Team News

Bolivia fell at the final hurdle to qualify for the World Cup, losing out to Iraq in the Inter-Confederation final for the last spot at the tournament. They are quite an organised side, and were tipped to beat Iraq in the final, given their familiarity with the weather conditions and altitude.

They did manage to beat Suriname in the semi-final to give them a chance of reaching the World Cup, but that is their only real success of late, which positions Scotland as firm favourites for this friendly game, which is reflected in the odds for the match, with Scotland currently 1.40 favourites.

Steve Clarke’s men started well with their World Cup prep with a 4-1 win over Curacao, one of the smaller nations set to be at the World Cup this summer. Scotland were not even at full strength for that game, so Clarke will have been pleased with the display, even if it was aided by a red card to their opponents.

📔 Bolivia v Scotland Formation & Team News

Bolivia usually set up in a 4-3-3 shape and will be able to play with quite a bit of freedom here. Their organisation doesn’t often lead to defensive resilience with Bolivia failing to keep a clean sheet across their last eight matches across all competitions, including conceding in both games of the inter-confederation qualifying finals.

Scotland set up in a 4-4-2 against Curacao, it’ll be interesting to see if Steve Clarke persists with using two strikers. Scotland certainly have the options for it, Lawrence Shankland and George Hirst led the line against Curacao, but Scott McTominay and Che Adams are also options to act in this role.

The only downside for Scotland during that warm-up match was a significant injury to Billy Gilmour, which has since ruled him out of the World Cup in a late heavy blow to Steve Clarke. Tyler Fletcher has been called up to replace Gilmour in the squad, but his quality will surely be missed in central areas.
