It finished 2-0 when these sides met at the start of December, as Xavi Simons and Richarlison both got on the scoresheet in the first half. It was a dominant performance from Spurs, who racked up 15 shots and four big chances worth a total of 2.18 xG. In return, Brentford mustered up just four shots worth 0.29 xG. 

However, the Bees have been a difficult side to face at the Gtech this season, as they have lost just one match. They have won four of their last five on home turf, with both teams to score landing in all of those matches. 

They were involved in a five-goal thriller at the weekend against the Cherries, and it certainly was an entertaining match. The hosts racked up a total of 3.66 xG, creating five big chances, but they weren’t exactly watertight at the back. Bournemouth racked up 20 shots and four big chances. 

Brentford have drawn at least two cards in nine of their 10 home matches this season. The Bees are averaging exactly 2.0 cards drawn per game this season in all competitions, and have consistently got over this mark. 

That figure looks set to rise, as Tottenham have accumulated the most yellow cards of any Premier League team this term. Thomas Frank’s men have adopted an aggressive approach this season, and have landed this selection in 15 of their 18 league matches overall, including each of their last nine consecutive top-flight matches. 

Spurs are averaging 2.67 cards per game in the league this season, and received three bookings on their last meeting against Brentford, with Cristian Romero, Pedro Porro and Archie Gray all picking up a yellow. 

With five goals in his last 10 appearances across all competitions, Richarlison finds himself in a decent patch of form, and looks set to lead the line for Spurs again here. The Brazilian was on the scoresheet when he last faced Brentford, as he was in the right place at the right time to tap home from a pinpoint Xavi Simons cross. He had three shots in that game, and can assert his presence once again. 

Richarlison was unfortunate not to score against Crystal Palace at the weekend, as he had two goals chalked off for marginal offside calls. He still managed to land this selection with a shot on target against the Eagles, while also providing the assist for Archie Gray. The 28-year-old has looked sharp in recent weeks, and is averaging 2.66 shots per 90 across all competitions this season, hitting this mark in four of his last five away starts.

Kevin Schade was the standout performer for Brentford at the weekend, as he contributed three goals in a 4-1 victory over Bournemouth. Schade has really stepped up to the plate since Dango Ouattara departed for AFCON, shouldering a lot of attacking responsibility in the final third. The German international has six goals and one assist under his belt from 17 Premier League appearances this season, but his contributions extend further than just that. 

Schade is a player who leads the press for Brentford, with his energy and intensity. The 24-year-old is averaging 1.71 fouls per 90 in the Premier League this season, rising to 2.37 fouls per 90 when playing at the Gtech. He takes things up a notch when buoyed on by the home crowd, and has committed a foul in seven of his eight home games, only failing to land this selection against Aston Villa back in August.

Because of Kevin Schade’s heroics at the weekend, Caoimhin Kelleher’s contributions went under the radar. The Brentford keeper racked up eight saves, conceding just once from 2.72 xG. The former Liverpool man has been a key player for Keith Andrews this season, and is averaging 3.22 saves per game at the Gtech this campaign. 

Kelleher ranks 7th for total saves this season out of all Premier League keepers, and has racked up some notable tallies already, including five saves against Man United, five saves against Arsenal, and five saves against Spurs in the reverse fixture. 

Thomas Frank seemed to have the blueprint on how to create chances against his former club, and Kelleher had plenty of work to do. While the Bees are expected to be a lot more competitive on home turf, they haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last eight games at the Gtech, so Tottenham should generate chances.

Despite a relatively even possession split, Tottenham dominated Brentford at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in terms of creating chances. The Bees managed just four shots, but the pick of the bunch fell at the feet of Igor Thiago, and he really should have scored. The Brazilian accounted for three of his sides’ attempts, including the only one on target. 

Thiago has been heavily involved in the final third for Brentford this season, he's sitting 2nd in the goalscorer charts, only behind Erling Haaland. Thiago has scored 11 league goals, seven of which have come on home turf, so he is a player that Spurs will have to watch out for. 

Tottenham managed to keep a clean sheet against Crystal Palace at the weekend, but prior to that had shipped 16 goals from their last five away matches in all competitions. They haven’t been watertight at the back, and Brentford will hope to exploit that.

After serving his one-game suspension at the weekend, Romero is set for a return at the back in place of Kevin Danso. The Argentine international was sent off against Liverpool for two bookable offences, despite not committing a single foul. The first yellow came for arguing with the ref, and the second was for scrapping with Ibrahima Konate. Romero has a tendency to lose his head, and faces a tough matchup against Thiago here. That’s a matchup to keep an eye on between two physical players. 

Romero was booked after just 31 minutes in his previous match against Brentford, but that didn’t stop him flying into challenges. He also made two tackles, and was replaced after 81 minutes. The centre back is averaging 1.5 fouls per 90 in his away games this season, and has been carded in five out of eight appearances overall.
