Brighton Double Chance

Brighton’s record of three wins, three draws and three losses after nine Premier League matches speaks volume about their inconsistency, but there has been a real dichotomy in results at home compared to away, and they will be looking forward to playing in front of a home support once more.

The Seagulls are unbeaten after four home games this season, and have pulled off some impressive results. They beat Man City 2-1 back in August, before then taking a point from an in-form Spurs side. On their last home outing, Brighton prevailed against Newcastle by a 2-1 scoreline.

Meanwhile, Leeds have struggled on their travels since their promotion from the Championship. The Peacocks have lost three out of five matches in all competitions, with their only win coming against basement-dwellers Wolves who are yet to register a Premier League win this season.

Both Teams to Score

They were even eliminated by Sheffield Wednesday on penalties in the EFL Cup, after drawing 1-1 in regular time. However, Leeds can take some confidence from the fact they are six points clear of the relegation zone, and recently beat West Ham 2-1 at Elland Road.

This trip to the Amex could be a tough test for Leeds given Brighton’s strong home form, but the hosts are yet to keep a clean sheet there this season, with BTTS landing in all four of their home games.

With 14 goals scored and 15 conceded in the Premier League so far, Brighton games have been action-packed with BTTS landing in eight out of nine in total. In fact, only Liverpool have a higher goals-per-game average in the English top flight this term. Based on that record, goals remain a market to target.

Yasin Ayari to have 2+ Shots

Ayari had an average of 1.28 shots per 90 in the Premier League last season, but the Swedish international has shown a lot more attacking intent so far this term, and has had at least two shots in three of his last five matches, with this selection landing in his last two.

In fact, Ayari’s total of 15 shots in the Premier League is the highest of any Brighton player, and his average of 2.1 shots per 90 is equally as impressive. In his last six games alone, the 22-year-old has racked up a total of 16 shots, even getting on the scoresheet against Barnsley in the EFL Cup, and Tottenham in the league.

12 of his 15 shots in the English top flight have come from outside the box, and Ayari is certainly not short of confidence to try his luck from distance. In a solid matchup against the newly-promoted Leeds, Ayari should be able to find shooting chances.

Brenden Aaronson to have 2+ Shots

Brenden Aaronson was lively in Leeds’ last outing against West Ham, as he registered a total of three shots. The American international scored the first goal of the game after just three minutes, which proved decisive as his side went on to secure the spoils. That was his first goal of the season, but Aaronson has consistently been active in front of goal throughout the campaign.

In fact, he ranks third in the Leeds squad for total shots this season, despite being benched for the first three league games. Since then, he has hit this mark in six straight games, averaging 2.28 shots per 90 in that time.

Operating on the right wing, Aaronson has a tendency to cut inside and look to pick up promising positions in the box, while Jayden Bogle overlaps to provide width, which certainly helps the American find so many shooting opportunities.

📈 Brighton v Leeds Form & Tactics

After gathering some momentum with a five-game unbeaten streak, Brighton were halted in their tracks by Man United last weekend, as the Red Devils won 4-2 at Old Trafford. Whilst the scoreline suggests a one-sided affair, the hosts were fortunate to score four times from 1.29 xG - Brighton actually racked up more efforts at goal than Man United, but were just not as clinical.

Prior to that, they were in good form, having recently beaten Newcastle at the Amex Stadium. 34-year-old Danny Welbeck was on target to score a brace in that game, including an 84th-minute strike to secure the spoils for the Seagulls.

They were beaten by Arsenal in the EFL Cup midweek, but Fabian Hurzeler should take pride from the fact his rotated side racked up a total of 18 shots at the Emirates, forcing Kepa Arrizabalaga into six saves.

Leeds have had the advantage for this match, in the sense they had no midweek fixture, so have had the whole week to rest and prepare for Brighton. Prior to their weekend victory, Leeds were dealt defeat by fellow newly-promoted side Burnley at Turf Moor. However, the visitors were desperately unlucky to leave with nothing, given that they racked up 19 shots and four big chances worth 2.63 xG to no avail, while the Clarets managed just four shots worth 0.45 xG, and scored twice.

📔 Brighton v Leeds Formation & Team News

Gabriel Gudmundsson was taken off in the first-half for Leeds last Friday, and although the injury was confirmed to only be minor, he could miss out this weekend. James Justin will hope to make his first start for Leeds this season in his place. Other than that, Willy Gnonto is the only other player in the infirmary, meaning Noah Okafor should suit up on the left-wing, with Daniel Farke opting for a similar eleven to that which beat West Ham.

For Fabian Hurzeler, the situation is a bit more complicated. This game will come too soon for Brajan Gruda, Kaoro Mitoma and Joel Veltman, while James Milner is also ruled out. Mats Wieffer should play at right back again, with Ferdi Kadioglu operating further forward.

With five league goals to his name, Danny Welbeck has been in standout form this season, and will lead the line with Georginio Rutter supporting him. Yasin Ayari and Carlos Baleba are expected to partner up in midfield, although the latter hasn’t quite been in the best of form this term.
