Thursday evening’s entertainment takes us to see Brighton host Marseille in Group B of the Europa League. Although both teams have guaranteed themselves a spot in the knockout stages, they will both be gunning for a first-placed finish in the group.
Brighton are currently sat in 8th place in the Premier League, with a mixed bag of recent results. Their last match saw them draw 1-1 against Burnley at home. The Seagulls will see this as a defeat since Burnley are currently joint-bottom of the league.
Marseille sit in 6th place in Ligue 1 and are now unbeaten across their last five games. They are also currently top of Group B, having gone unbeaten in the Europa League so far.
The reverse fixture ended 2-2 and was a great watch. Both teams had plenty of chances, and the game was very open. The stats point towards Thursday night’s clash being similar, making this game ideal for a bet builder. As such, this article covers all you need to know about the match, using stats from the Brighton v Marseille Cheat Sheet.

⚽ Match stats: Both teams tend to feature on the scoresheet
Both Brighton and Marseille have scored plenty of goals this season. The Seagulls have averaged an impressive 2.06 goals scored in the Premier League this season. This ranks them as the joint 4th-highest team in terms of goals scored. Furthermore, they have found themselves on the scoresheet in every Premier League and Europa League game this season.
Marseille are averaging 1.47 goals per game in Ligue 1 this season, and have scored at least one goal in seven of their last ten games across all competitions. Similar to Brighton, they have also scored at least one goal in every Europa League match so far.
Both Brighton and Marseille are conceding goals with regularity. The Seagulls have seen an average of 1.75 GA per game in the Premier League. For Marseille, their domestic goals against is 1.07 GA per game.
Perhaps the most interesting stat is that all of Brighton’s Premier League games so far have seen both teams score. This is even more noteworthy as Brighton have faced the bottom three teams in the table, conceding at home to all three.
Predictions:
⚽️ Both teams to score @ 1.50
⚽️ Over 2.5 goals @ 1.45
🎯 Shooting stats: Keep an eye out for centre backs
Lewis Dunk is worth a look in the shot markets. In his last game against Marseille, Dunk managed three shots, two of which were headers from corners. The third was direct from a free kick.
Not many people know that Dunk is often second pick for a close-range free kick behind Pascal Gross, increasing the chances of him taking a shot in the game. Over all competitions this season, Dunk has averaged 0.92 shots and 0.24 shots on target per match.
For Marseille, Chancel Mbemba is the man to turn to for value in the shots markets. The centre back has scored four goals this season: two in the Europa League and two in Ligue 1. One of these came against Brighton, firing the ball into the bottom left after a well worked build up down Marseille’s right. In terms of averages, Mbemba has taken 0.63 shots per game.
Predictions:
🚀 Lewis Dunk to have 1+ shots @ 1.53
🚀 Lewis Dunk to have 2+ shots @ 4.00
🚀 Chancel Mbemba to have 1+ shots @ 1.83
🚩 Corners stats: The Seagulls to dominate corners
Brighton rank 5th in the Premier League for corners taken, averaging 5.81. Over their Europa League games so far they have averaged 6.4 corners per game, also the 5th highest out of the total 32 teams. Corners are a big part of Brighton’s game, with centre back pairing Lewis Dunk and Jan Paul van Hecke providing aerial threat.
On the flip side of the coin, Marseille concede lots of corners. Currently they rank 7th in Ligue 1 for corners against, averaging 5.07 per game. In the Europa League they have conceded a similar average (5.40). Last time Marseille played Brighton they conceded five corners even when playing at home.
Given the stats for both teams, there is value to be found in Brighton corners. Furthermore, the corner match bet market looks to be a good pick for Brighton. This selection simply needs Brighton to take more corners than Marseille for the bet to land.
Predictions:
🚩 Over 4.5 Brighton corners @ 1.33
🚩 Over 5.5 Brighton corners @ 1.65
🚩 Brighton corner match bet @ 1.25
🛑 Fouls stats: Renan Lodi’s defensive dark arts
No player on the pitch on Thursday night has seen more bookings this season than Renan Lodi. The Marseille left back has picked up six yellows in Ligue 1, the league’s second-highest. He has also committed a high average of 1.97 fouls committed per game.
Last time out Lodi committed five fouls, picking up a booking in the process. In fact, four of his last five games have seen Lodi commit at least three fouls, three of those games have seen him be booked. It is no wonder he was once signed by Diego Simeone.
He will likely be defending against Simon Adingra or Facundo Buonanotte, who win 0.7 and 2.84 fouls per game respectively. Buonanotte, despite often coming off the bench, has won at least one foul in all but one of his Premier League appearances this season.
Predictions:
🛑 Renan Lodi to commit 2+ fouls @ 1.62
🟡 Renan Lodi to be booked @ 4.33
