Burnley v Sheffield United

📅

Kick Off: Monday 21stth April at 17:30

🏆
Competition: Championship
📺

Watch Live: Sky Sports Main Event

A massive game to bring to a close a hectic Easter weekend of Championship football, as 2nd place Burnley welcome 3rd place Sheffield United.

It’s simply a must-win game for The Blades to retain some hope of climbing into the top two positions.

Avoiding defeat should be sufficient for The Clarets, and we know how hard to score against they are, with only six goals conceded at home this season.

There is so much on the line in this game that I can see nothing other than a tight encounter.

There is plenty of precedent for low-scoring games at Turf Moor this season, as 15 of 21 league games have seen fewer than three goals scored. For those six games that have seen three goals or more, all bar one have come against bottom-half sides, and the one top-half side that breaks the trend, Watford, are a bottom-half side away from home.

Scott Parker’s side are unbeaten at home this season, but the scores have ended level on nine occasions. They drew 0-0 against both Leeds and Sunderland, the teams on a similar level to The Blades.

🔍 Burnley v Sheffield United Players to Watch

🟣 Jaiden Anthony to Score or Assist

In a team that has not been famed for its attacking spark during this campaign, Jaidon Anthony has been a constant threat for The Clarets.

He is in decent form, having recorded a goal or assist in six of his last ten starts, with eight goal contributions in total. He has been operating off the left-hand side since the arrival of Marcus Edwards, which seems to have led to an improvement in his output, having spent most of the season on the right-hand side.

We don’t expect many goals here, but if you were looking for a player who is likely to contribute to one, Anthony is a good player to have on your side.

🔴 Gustavo Hamer

Due to Burnley’s exceptional defensive record, we are handed some juicy prices on Sheffield United goalscorers. We have fallen foul of Chris Wilder's rotation policy in recent games, so we’ll put a player who is guaranteed to start if fit, and scoring goals at a rate of 1 every 4 90’s.

That player is midfielder Gustavo Hamer, who has found the net nine times so far this season and has averaged 0.79 shots on target per 90 in the Championship.

He is a player capable of a moment of magic, as seen as recently as Friday against Cardiff, as well as against his old club Coventry with a beautiful free kick, which is a plus in a game likely to see few chances.

💻 Burnley v Sheffield United Form and Tactics

Burnley are top of the Championship form table over the last five games, with four wins and a draw, meaning their relentless push for promotion continues. Their resolute defence means that more often than not, one goal will be enough to see them collect three points, having won to nil 17 times.

It will be the usual 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 that Parker opts for. Marcus Edwards joining in January seems to have helped to free up Burnley’s previously stodgy attack, with 20 goals scored in the last 10 games, which he has started.

Sheffield United will also line up in a similar formation, both for parts of the season, known for their impressive defences. The Blades have had to chop and change their back line a bit more frequently, seemingly never settled on a regular right back, and an injury to Harry Souttar cut short his loan in January.

What they do have, on paper, is an impressive array of striking options, with Tyrese Campbell, Tom Cannon, Ben Brereton-Dia,z and Kieffer Moore the envy of most sides in the second tier. All would be starters at most other clubs.
